Dylan Smith Exploring The New Testament Instructor: Travis Freeman October 1, 2023 1
For your reflection this week I want you to think about the ethic provided by Paul in the Corinthian letters. Then answer the below questions. 1. How does the ethics presented by Paul in the Corinthian letters differ from the ethic found in culture today? The ethics presented by Paul in his letters to the Corinthians put more emphasis on the spiritual aspect of things than the material things. He explains the importance of spiritual development, love for one another, humility, forgiveness, and self-control. Today people tend to focus more on self-worth and personal achievements. If we used Paul’s ethics in society today, we would focus more on our relationships, forgiving instead of holding grudges, and not being greedy. We would place a higher value on our faith and spirituality than material things of the world. We would all spend more time praying and developing our relationship with God. 2. What would it look like for an individual to apply Paul’s biblical ethic in the world today? If a person applied Paul’s biblical ethics in the world today, they would be humble, loving, helpful, kind, truthful, and selfless. We could witness the work of Christ through this person. They would be focused on living in a way that is pleasing to God and not worried about personal gains. They would be focused on getting to heaven not climbing the cooperate latter. If we all lived by Paul’s ethics imagine how much better the world would be. Paul’s ethics teaches us how to be a true Christian and live by the words of God. We all have the choice to live by these ethics, but we often let the matter of worldly things get in the way of that. 2
