Everyday Study bible 6-11
Squares: 4 ideas that, in general, square (fit) with your thinking
1.
The Bible was meant to be read and studied by all believers, not merely church leaders. (p56) I also believe the Bible should be read by everyone because so much of people who hate Christians have misbeliefs that would be answered by reading the bible. 2.
Writing in your Bible and interacting with the text is a great way for God’s Word to
leave an impression on you. As you make observations or take notes on how a verse ties in with another passage, you have moved from passive reading to active learning. (p65) - Growing up it was my Nana who always make sure I made it to church and so I loved to flip through her Bible, I thought when I was younger that writing in your bible was so bad but Nana did it and told me that it is a great way to reflect on how you interpret the Bible based on your life experiences and is great to highlight times in your life and journal how God is moving with in you. I now mark up my Bible as I feel led to. 3.
But God has also given human beings some responsibility. They are to take care of God’s good creation. (p 41) – God made such a beautiful home for us here on Earth and it is our job to love God by loving all parts of his creation. This really resonated with me when I lived in Alaska. The snow covers everything all winter but then it melts and the flowers and fruit bloom, the snow melts to feed the rivers
where the fish live. Its am amazing process and God made it for us to live in and have food. 4.
The baggage that we bring to reading the Bible is something that I understand. I was raised in a church that while not as strict as some had rules, my mom taught me to read the Bible and realize that that was the church’s personal belief and not always God’s word. Now days you can see that coming from so many different directions, people starting a church and twisting the Bible to views of the world, Christian music makers turning out to be prosperity believers, and so much more. It is up to each family to read the Bible and pray to see the truth of God and live for him not for the world we currently live in.
Triangles: 3 angles you have never considered before
1.
The further we read into the Scriptures, the more we will realize the depths that God will go to in order to rescue and redeem humankind. “We are prone to wander, but God is prone to pursue. And He’s faster.” (p 38)
2.
We can take this even one step further. The Bible itself is one big story that God is telling. It is a story that begins in Genesis 1 and ends in Revelation 21. (p 35) I always thought of the smaller different stories in the bible never of it as one big story that connects until taking this class. 3.
“God also did not override their human capacity so that the authors functioned as dictation machines writing a word-for-word account of what God was telling them. Rather, their personalities, interests, and skill sets were “carried along” by the Holy Spirit” (p 48)
Circles: 2 questions that are circling in your mind
1.
The second translation was the Douay-Rheims Bible, produced in 1610. This Bible was produced by Catholic scholars during the reign of the Protestant Queen Elizabeth. This version was based on the Latin Vulgate and served as the Catholic
version of the English Bible. (p 57) This really causes me so many questions. I know there are different versions of the Bible but what are the differences of the Catholic Bible and other versions? 2.
As long as we think of rebellion in large terms, we will never see ourselves as being guilty of rebellion. It is always committed by someone else or something else that is much bigger than I. However, this is not how the Bible describes it. (p 42) This quote bounces in my mind, not as something I question but more of something I try to think about when I am living daily life. Am I doing things that are against God’s will for my life? Am I being judgmental of others for sinning while sinning myself?

While many in the world still do not have access to the Bible in their language, God forbid that we take for granted the privilege of reading his revelation of himself to us. Knowing some of the journey the Bible has taken ought to impassion us to know God better through his Word and to share that Word with others. (p 59) Access to the Bible is such a huge life changing event for many people. I love hearing stories of missionaries who use their skills to translate Bibles to different languages, I also love to support those who give Bibles to those
who can not afford them right here in the United States. John Cartwright and Chris Hulshof, Everyday Bible Study: Growing in the Christian Faith
