Option 1 (2 Nephi 1:1–12) Land of Inheritance Read 2 Nephi 1:5–12, and complete the following statements that summarize Lehi’s teachings about the land of their inheritance. Use your own words, and be sure to completely cover what Lehi taught:
•In addition to Lehi’s descendants, the land is an inheritance for everyone that the Lord would physically remove from other nations. This suggests that the promised land is for everyone whom God chooses to bring to this place as part of His divine purpose, not only Lehi's direct bloodline.
•If those who live in the promised land will serve God and keep His commandments, then They
will have safety, freedom, and wealth bestowed upon them.As long as people follow God's commands and are virtuous, they will not face oppression in this place that is called a land of liberty.
•The Lord kept other nations from knowing about the promised land at that time because he wanted to keep it intact so that others who would serve Him would be able to inherit it. This territory was kept off limits to the outside world in order to protect it from being contaminated by evil and abominations and to act as a refuge for the virtuous and those who would follow God's commands.
•If the inhabitants of the Land “reject the Holy One of Israel, the true Messiah,” then they would suffer the repercussions of their deeds and be cursed. Lehi forewarns that the country is devoted to those who serve the Lord and that the land would become a curse rather than a boon to its people if they reject the Messiah and turn their back on God. God would remove his promises of prosperity and safety, bringing about their destruction and the loss of the land's blessings.
