The message of the Bible is the message of Jesus Christ being our savior, Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, and how we are to get into heaven. John 14:6 states “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (NIV, 2011). According to Bickel and Jantz (2003), “It is the story of salvation; the story of your redemption and mine through Christ; the story of life, of peace, of eternity”. The way they describe the theme is the same as I feel. I have always said the bible was our daily living instructions and how to live so that we can get into heaven. I think the Bible's main idea is how Jesus died for everyone, how we need to live, and what to believe to be accepted into heaven. I have always felt that the Bible relays different stories to give us insight into how to handle things that come to us in our lives and to always depend on God. Without the Bible being written and set up the way it is we wouldn’t know about Jesus or how to get into heaven. According to Bickel & Jantz, 2003 “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right” (2 Timothy 3:16). I feel that understanding the bible can help as I seek to apply scripture to course content. I believe our courses teach us and help us to understand what god wants from us how to live and how to treat people in life and the work environment. We converse about our lives our struggles and what scriptures have helped us in our time of need. I believe this is what God wants is for all of us to seek him and help others to do so also. The sacrificial work Jesus performed for humanity in His crucifixion not only empowers conversion but serves as the template for Christians to love, serve, and sacrifice for others. In fact, for evangelicals “gratitude for Calvary” is a prime motive for spiritual growth (Bebbington, 1989, p. 16).
