Passage: Acts 19:11-22
A. I have read Acts 19:11-22 in both a formal translation (NASB, NRSV, ESV, or CSB) and a functional translation (NIV, NLT, or NCV). Highlight the correct answer. Please use the translation provided in your digital library or found at Biblegateway.com

Having read the passage in both formal and functional translation, list at least 2 similarities and 3 differences between the way both translations cover this story. These similarities and differences should be related to the text itself rather than the translation. For example, an observation like, “The formal translation is harder to read” is not an acceptable observation because it deals with the translation itself rather than the text. You may list as many similarities and differences that you find providing that you meet the minimum amount for each one.
1.
Similarity – Both of these translations talk about Paul performed miracles through God. 2.
Similarity – In both translations the verse talks about the Seven Sons of Sceva conducting exorcism and acting like God gave them the power that he did Paul. 3.
Difference – I noticed in the translation that the way Paul asks for the Seven Sons of Sceva to come out is different. In (NIV) it is “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” But in (NRSV) it is “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.”
4.
Difference – In the (NIV) when it talks about the evil spirit attacking them leaving them “naked and bleeding” but in the (NRSV) it says “naked and wounded”
5.
Difference - In the (NIV) at the end of the scripture it says “fifty thousand drachmas” but in the (NSRV) is says fifty thousand silver coins.

C. Identify the basic elements of the story you are studying.

Main characters: (List them) God, Paul, Timothy, Erastus, and the Seven sons of Sceva. 2. Plot: (50-100 words) Paul was given the power to perform unusual miracles, and this was happening when he would give items such as aprons or handkerchiefs. When he would give these items out the people would be healed from all their illnesses. There was also a group of Jews known as the “Seven Sons of Sceva” going around town trying to cast evil, but are publicly
humiliated by the spirits. With this humiliation and them being set examples it makes the town confess their sins and believe in God.
