Reflection and Synthesis Report
Name:
Adil Raf
Week #:
13
Instructions
In the table provided below, you will complete your reflection and synthesis responses for this week. Be sure to
complete each Response section. When referencing scripture or other materials, only include a brief or abbreviated
summary along with the citation as these cannot be included in the required word count. When you have completed
the document, save it to your computer and follow the instructions in your course to submit the assignment to your
instructor.
1.
Did you complete all the assigned reading for the week? [Yes ⃝ or No
⃝]
2.
Article of Faith
Please identify the Article of Faith studied this week
Response:
"We
believe in being
honest, true,
chaste,
benevolent, virtuous, and in
doing
good
to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—
We believe all things, we
hope
all things, we have endured many things, and hope
to be able to
endure
all things. If there is anything
virtuous,
lovely, or of good
report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."
3.
Explanation of
Key Events and
Scriptures
Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus
Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specifc
scripture references from the assigned readings.
Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you
believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several
insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture
references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to
quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone.
Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria:
1.
200–300 words in length
(please include your word count at the bottom of the
section).
2.
Include at least 3 scripture references
.
Response:
The last part of the 13th article of faith says that if we fnd anything lovely and praiseworthy, we seek after these
things.
D&C 58: 26-29
, teaches us similar principles that we must not be slothful servants. Instead of that we should
do things on our own. We should take decisions that are righteous and should not be commanded in each and
everything. This is an interesting block of scriptures to me. In it, we’re reminded of our agency to choose for
ourselves and the trust that God has in us to do the right thing. If we are striving to be like Christ and have His
attributes, then we shouldn’t need constant direction in all things. I would say that if we are always asking then we
are not really learning, paying attention, or being converted.
D&C: 42:42
teaches us the same thing. We should not be idle because an idle person cannot enter the kingdom of
God.
In
D&C:68: 31
, the Lord expresses disappointment with the idlers among the inhabitants of Zion, whose children are
growing up in wickedness and who are not sincerely pursuing eternal riches, but rather are consumed by greed.
Through personal experience, I have come to realize that submitting to the Lord’s will has transformed me into a
better person and it allows me to gain that and understand what it means.

4. Synthesis:
Personal
Relevance and
Application to
the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous
power to help people fnd answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and
concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that
week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you
have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental
truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think
these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging
with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your
response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Gambling
Response:
I would like to talk about an issue that has affected my whole family in the past. The problem is gambling.
My elder brother has been involved in it for so many years. We suffered a lot because of this habit of my brother. He
took money on interest to fulfll his desire and lost all the money. Later, my father had to sale out our home to pay
that money. I used to curse my brother for his acts because we all were hurt. Especially, my father who built that
house in so many years. However, when I joined the church and started to study the scripture and understood the
atonement of Christ, I understood that I am not to judge but to understand. I cannot judge others for sinning
differently from how I sin. That is what the gospel of Jesus Christ offers to the world. It offers an understanding of
how God sees others. It offers knowledge regarding what faith can do to us and to the people that are around us. The
gospel of Jesus Christ can make us change. The gospel of Jesus Christ can give us strength. My brother got rid of this
bad habit after so many years, but I was healed way before that.
In the Book of Mormon, we are taught about a principle that may not be in any other church around the world.
Ether; 12:27-28,
“And if men come unto me I will show unto them their
weakness
. I
give
unto men weakness that they may be
humble; and my
grace
is sufficient for all men that
humble
themselves before me; for if they humble themselves
before me, and have faith in me, then will I make
weak
things become strong unto them.
Behold, I will show unto the Gentiles their weakness, and I will show unto them that
faith
, hope and charity bringeth
unto me—the fountain of all
righteousness
.”
These versus give me strength to focus on my weaknesses and not to judge others. Sometimes, we are given
weaknesses so we can become stronger. We must help our brothers and sisters to overcome their weaknesses.
Through the atonement of Jesus Christ, we all can become clean and by living a righteous life for the rest of our life
can enter the kingdom of God.
