PSY 211 Module Eight Activity Template In the Module Eight Activity Guidelines and Rubric, review the Overview, Scenario, and Prompt sections. Then answer each of the following questions with a minimum of 2 to 5 sentences. Complete this template by replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information. •Applying Piaget’s concept of perspective-taking in ways that would support Jasmine, address the following in your response: Why is perspective-taking so critical to your conversation with Jasmine? How might you seeing Jasmine’s situation from her point of view inspire her to advocate for herself? Piagets concept of perspective talking is important because it gives you the opportunity to try and put yourself in Jasmine’s position here. If she has found out that others with less experience is making more than her she has three options: 1) She can bring it up with her employer and see if he is willing to make the situation correct, 2) she keeps her mouth shut and continues to work like normal not knowing the repercussions of speaking up or 3) start looking for a new position somewhere else. Honestly, it depends on what state she is in and what their employment standards are. If it’s like here in Alabama, it’s a fire at will state. You can be fired for anything and the company can just lie and say it was xyz reason. I really just depends on how much she chooses to push the issue. Is it correct what is happening to her? Absolutely not, but I’m not sure losing a job I love is worth the fight. •Applying Goleman’s concept of empathy in ways that would support Jasmine, address the following in your response: Why is empathy so critical to your conversation with Jasmine? In Jasmine’s case, what do you believe is the main difference between perspective-taking and empathy? Empathy is critical in this situation, for someone to have a person that understands what they are currently going though and can empathize with the situation is priceless. People need to talk to get their emotions out and to validate them. Applying Gilligan’s views on morality in ways that would support Jasmine, address the following in your response: Why is moral reasoning so critical to your conversation with Jasmine? According to Gilligan, which type of morality best aligns with Jasmine’s situation:
care-based morality, justice-based morality, or both? Explain your response. It’s important to stick to your morals you have developed though your life. These were instilled in you to keep you from making too many serious mistakes. Justice morality would be the one that best aligns with Jasmine. She is looking for a resolution to know if what is happening to her is worth fighting for or not. As you wrap up your conversation with Jasmine, integrate the perspectives of Piaget, Goleman, and Gilligan by answering the following questions: According to Piaget, what is one factor that could inhibit your ability to take Jasmine’s perspective? How might Goleman’s concept of empathy mitigate this factor? How does Goleman’s concept of empathy relate to Piaget’s concept of perspective-taking in your conversation with Jasmine? How do Gilligan’s views on morality relate to Goleman’s concept of empathy in your conversation with Jasmine? One thing that would inhibit me to take her side is the fact she was asking about others pay in the company. Most companies have this listed as something that is liable to have you terminated. Also, we don’t know James full story yes he’s getting bad reviews but the company may be waiting on him to dig a big enough hole they have to let him go. Morality and empathy go hand and hand when it comes to helping or listening to other with situations that are happening. You have to have a certain level of both to be able to be compassionate to different situations and people.
