Good Afternoon Everyone, A community psychologist impacts certain changes in policies, especially when working in a collaboration with others in regards to communities and specific issues within the health care system. Policy modifications are a very essential aspect of being a community psychologist. A common dilemma faced when being a community psychologist is that they must look for the origin of what is causing the issues within the community and then making recommendations for the best way to alter the structural policy. This is in conjunction to also being an advocate to politicians in that community on how to properly change the social policies with in the health care system (Wolfe, 2013). Another way they are involved is by building healthy community partnerships because individual’s lives sometimes depend on the ecological approach to improving their health and to understand their codependence of all parts of their life and situations that they may encounter. In this way a health community method is the community psychologist inspiring individuals to improve control over and to increase their health. Community psychologist focus for communities is to ensure that individuals have health care access. This can be done by bringing community awareness about local coalitions that could potentially link them with resources for lower-income families with healthcare. Another way a community psychologist focuses on the health care system is by focusing on very specific aspects of healthcare and the individual’s rights. This includes healthcare equity, health inequalities, racial injustice, and social justice for individuals within the community they serve. For example, by having racism in the health care system it directly influences one’s health by causing unnecessary stress and anxiety as well as having an impact on social determinants of health on individuals.
