I have chosen Scenario 2 for my discussion. In this scenario, the principal's intention to manipulate the school's performance data is a clear violation of professional ethics. Specifically, it goes against the American Psychological Association's (APA) Ethical Principle of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, which states that "psychologists seek to promote accuracy, honesty, and truthfulness in the science, teaching, and practice of psychology" (APA, 2017). Moreover, it also infringes upon the American Statistical Association's (ASA) Ethical Guidelines, which stress the importance of integrity in one's professional practices. It emphasizes that statisticians should "always be honest and transparent in reporting on data" (ASA, 2019). As a professional psychologist, it is crucial to address this issue in a tactful and respectful manner. Firstly, I would privately express my concerns to the principal, explaining the potential consequences of her actions, such as damaging the school's credibility and undermining the value of the testing system. The principal would be advised to not drop those low grades period because it unethical to do so. I would also suggest alternative ways to improve the school's performance, such as providing additional support and resources to those students struggling academically. It is important to address this issue with care and consideration, taking into account the potential impact on both the school and the students involved. (Grades et al., 2023) As professionals, it is our duty to uphold ethical standards and promote the well-being of those we serve. The Biblical story of Nathan and King David resonates with me in this scenario (2 Samuel 12:1-14). Nathan used a parable to confront King David about his wrongdoings, leading David to realize his faults on his own. This story encourages tactful confrontation and the importance of integrity. Just as Nathan did with David, I could use a similar approach to guide the principal to understand the ethical implications of her intended actions. References: American Psychological Association.
