2 PSY 108 Project Three Milestone: Career Paths Analysis Job Description Summary Job Title The job I choose for project three milestone is Social Service Caseworker 1. Job Roles and Responsibilities The main roles and responsibilities of Social Service caseworkers are to manage a caseload of up to 18 families and to ensure proper services are put into place to meet the needs of the children, either by maintaining their children in the home or reunifying children from foster care. Prerequisites for the Job The job prerequisites for the job includes a bachelors degree in social work, psychology, or related field. Must be able to manage time. Basic computer knowledge to include Microsoft office and internet functions. Primary Industry or Type of Business The type of industry this job falls in is Social Services and Human Resources and it is part of the federal government. Connection to Psychology This job is directly related to psychology because it involves working with families who the adults and/or children suffer from mental illness, substance abuse, trauma history. It also includes, being able to correctly match services to meet the needs such as counseling types, drug treatment and length, parenting skills classes, etc. and you must understand stages of child development to ensure you properly screen for any developmental delays or abnormalities with all children that enter into the system.

3 Connections to Emotional Intelligence Self-Awareness and Self-Regulation In this position, self awareness and self regulation would be something that you would have to master or have a firm grasp on just to be able to survive and succeed. The mental toll of seeing traumatic events happening to young children would take a lot of self awareness to be able to push down all your emotions and do what is best for the child. Also, being able to regulate your emotions so you don’t act out at parents and let the proper authorities handle the violence that will come is necessary. Social Awareness and Conflict Resolution You will be given daily challenges that will require strong conflict resolution tactics. No one wants to have children removed, have police intervene or give up vices of pleasure but for the safety of the person and others it’s what will have to be done. Also, being socially aware of the community you are in can help determine what time, place and situation you will be placing yourself in. Ethical Judgment and Empathy In this role, the ethnical judgement on what is right and what is wrong will not always be clear. In order to protect the children in this situation you need to believe that sometimes being with the biological parents aren’t always what is best for everyone. Having empathy for the parents that are trying to do what is right and knowing everyone goes through difficult times help restore trust to from strong relationships in the communities.
