Comprehensive Behavioral Plan Kuawanna Gilliam Belhaven University EDU506: Classroom Management Dr. Claudia Nesbit 12/02/2023
2 Comprehensive Behavioral Plan Behavior Management is a key component of every classroom. With teaching and learning being at the forefront of the classroom the ability to decrease misbehavior and increase on-task behavior is ideal for teachers of all grades and subjects, especially middle school students, specifically seventh grade ELA students. Statement of Purpose: The primary objective of the classroom is to cultivate an environment conducive to teaching and learning. To accomplish this goal, the classroom will prioritize the establishment of a safe and positive culture that encourages active participation, positive relationships, and academic success. Through the implementation of a comprehensive behavior management plan, students will be guided towards responsible and respectful behavior, contributing to their social development and academic achievements. Routines/Procedures: Entry Procedures: Students are allocated four minutes for quiet conversation and gathering materials from the material table, followed by a return to seats to locate and complete the do-now packet within seven minutes. Lecture and Independent Practice: Students are expected to wait quietly for the lesson to begin, complete assignments on time, hold assignments until the end of class, and return them to the class's section file. Group Practice: Procedures involve getting out learning materials and joining groups quietly, assigning jobs or tasks within the group, raising hands for teacher feedback once the assignment is complete, and holding assignments until dismissal, then returning them to the material table. Class Exit Procedures: Students are to wait in their seats for dismissal and return assignments to the class's section file at the material table.
3 Other Procedures: These include respectfully acknowledging the need to speak or leave the seat, placing belongings on the desk to indicate restroom use before do-now time, and any other procedures related to activities. Rules: 1. Please respect each student's right to learn: - Be quiet during instruction. - Avoid intentional distractions. - Understand and contribute to building a positive community. 2. Please prepare yourself for the classroom environment: - Complete classwork. - Bring necessary materials. - Follow classroom procedures at the appropriate time. 3. Please accept the outcome of your actions: - Avoid disruptions when facing natural or logical consequences. - Evaluate situations and understand the outcomes of actions. 4. Please protect yourself, each other, and classroom property: - Recognize the importance of safety. - Identify and avoid actions that may cause harm or damage. Logical Consequences: 1. Disrespecting others' right to learn: Relocate from the classroom or area.

4 2. Failure to prepare for the classroom environment: Stay after class for catch-up or additional assignments. 3. Harming others or damaging property: Lose access to materials, relocate from the classroom, and responsible for repairs. Intervention Plan for Chronic Discipline Problems: For chronic behavior problems, a Positive Behavior Support approach will be implemented: 1. Identify factors contributing to misbehavior. 2. Develop communication skills through effective language. 3. Teach and reinforce classroom rules and expectations. 4. Keep notes on student behavior and inform parents and administration. 5. Use behavioral contracts to promote self-control. 6. Conduct conferences with the teacher, parents, and administration. Physical Learning Environment Arrangements for Learning Activities: 1. Whole Group Instruction (e.g., Lectures or Independent Practice): - Arrangement: Rows - Benefits: Increases on-task behavior and completion of assignments. 2. Small Group Activities (e.g., Pair Share, Partner Work): - Arrangement: Desk in groups - Benefits: Facilitates communication without distracting other classmates. 3. Individual Work or Assessments: - Arrangement: Maintaining clear walking paths and minimizing distractions. - Benefits: Provides focus for individual tasks and assessments.
