PSY 322 Module Six School Administrator Worksheet Overview: With increases in the availability of technology and social media use among youth, incidents of cyberbullying and online harassment have increased. Along with these incidents, traditional incidents of physical or in-school bullying have remained constant. For this worksheet, you will consider the issue of bullying from a real case perspective. By completing this activity, you will assess the response of schools in cases of extreme bullying, and identify additional resources for support. In the field of psychology, suicide is an increased topic of concern, especially with new technology and younger generations. Please be aware that cases may involve disturbing content, including mention of suicide. Prompt: Choose either the Mallory Grossman or Jacob LeTourneau-Elsharkawy case, located in the module resources. Research additional information about your chosen case, as needed. How did the school administration handle the incidents of bullying? Were there additional steps that could have been taken? For this worksheet, you will be taking on the role of a school administrator. After having read the material on your chosen case, complete the following: Identify 2–3 steps taken by administrators in the case either to prevent or to respond to the incident. Identify 2–3 additional steps you would take or support resources that you might put in place to prevent a similar incident among your own students. Filing Harassment, Intimidation & Bullying Report Mitigation Always have a file reported when such event occurs and submitted to the New Jersey Department of Education as it is required by law in that state. 2. More mental health staff available Prevention Making sure the proper people are employed for students to reach out safely when needed and they can start the proper protocols for things like bullying, harassment etc. Also having the possibility to reach out to bullies and help figure out why they feel the need to bully others. 3. Improved policies for bullying Mitigation & Prevention Stronger consequences put into place against bullies enabling victims to feel safer about reporting when they are being harassed or bullied.
