Student Name: Ashley Ryan 1.(a) Select one concept introduced in this class that you found the most interesting, and then define it. (b) Mention why it is the most interesting to you. (c) Address how you may see yourself referring back to this information and applying it to your future experiences (personal or professional or otherwise). I feel like the basic beginning concepts of how a hypothesis is formed then made into data to be analized would be the most interesting, albeit confusing and detailed. This shows how many mistakes can be made along the way and the need for precise work and attention to detail. The biggest way I feel this would transfer over into my life is in my school research and understand the resource and statistical value of the subject at hand. 2. Mention two personal strengths (or habits) that supported your success in this course. My two personal strengths would have to be stubbornness not to give up and find a way. Then the ability to multitask with other life priorities. 3. Mention the Psychology and campus resources that you sought out to support your efforts in this class (for example, LRC, Psychology Department Statistics Webpage, PARL, Office hours with professor, Writing Center, APA Writing Sessions, Math Tutoring Center, or others) and what type of help you were able to receive. You can say NONE if you did not take advantage of any academic resources to support your efforts in this class. I had sought out office hours but unfortunately our work days conflict completely so I did use a little of the netTutor other than that is was videos Professor VT had posted and the help of my sister. 4. Mention two areas of improvement that you learned about yourself as a result of taking this class that you can work to improve to support your success in future classes, your home life, or work environment. The biggest thing would to have my two smallest in school to give me uninterrupted time, that will come though. The other is to learn how to do smaller bits at a time instead of trying to learn it all in hours long sessions. 5. Reflect on your experience in this course throughout the term. (a) List 3 take-a-ways related to statistics that will stick with you beyond this class moving forward. (b) Briefly explain each of the items you list and why you selected them. Note: These should be statistics, APA, and Psychology focused as well as personal skill development that are not specific to statistics topic (for example, clear understanding of how to calculate descriptive statistics by hand) I now understand the work that goes behind the results of a random statistic. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to unheard, mean median and mode ever again and the ability to test a z score is the only one I have memorized to heart so most likely those 3. 6. Reflect on your experience in this course throughout the term. (a) List 3 take-a-ways related to your own personal growth and development that will stick with you beyond this class moving forward. (b) Briefly explain each of the items you list and why you selected them. Note: These should focus on your traits, skill sets, attitudes and beliefs, and similar (more organized and
detailed notetaker, increased organization as a result of prioritizing my readings and assignments in the course, increased self-confidence, more positive attitude toward math and the learning experience, and similar) . My confidence would absolutely be numer one take away. As I was nearing the beginning of this class I had believed that I would fail or at least get a bad grade, this isn’t the case which has helped with my stressing over what I can control. Second would be the fact that I realized very ealy on that the textbook learning was not working for me so I persevered and found a new way. The third one falls into the same kind of categories as the first two but with all that I have on my plate I was still able to multi task through it all and retain enough information to make it to the end. 7. Feel free to share other aspects of your experiences in this class that have been of benefit from this class. It can be related to course content, specific topics, the free resources (textbook, research articles, supplemental resources like topical videos and podcasts), style of the course, the assignments and projects, the instructor’s facilitation style, anything at all! This is also a space to offer suggestions for content and resources that you would like to see integrated for future students’ taking this course! This is a free, open response reflection. I feel like some of my answers are repetitive but I do feel for those of us that cant understand the lingo yet videos are very helpful. Even when researching terms, this just brought in more terms I didn’t quite understand. I quite enjoy when lectures are a part of the curriculum so we came follow along step by step. There is a lot of information to be learned, so I do thank you for all of the resources provided in each module.
