Project One Alyssa Hutson Southern New Hampshire University PSY 260: Statistical Applications for the Behavioral and Social Sciences Professor Herbert-Mczeal November 19, 2023
Project One Introduction: Describe the purpose of your memo and the plan to address the scenario in 1 to 3 sentences. The aim of this memo is to understand the local non-profit landscape in order to gather information that will assist in boosting donation revenue. To achieve this, it is recommended to adopt an empathetic approach. This involves establishing emotional connections with potential donors, allowing them to empathize with those who require assistance, and enabling them to envision the positive impact their donations will have on those in need. Conclusions: Describe your findings in an executive summary of 4 to 6 sentences. Include the following in your conclusions: The main points you want to convey to your audience Rationale for your points in the form of data summaries The primary purpose of this memo is to highlight the significance of empathy and emotional connections in attracting increased donations to the non-profit. By eliciting smaller donations based on empathetic sentiments, there is a higher likelihood of securing larger donations in the long run. Another key point emphasized in this memo is the importance of targeting the working and middle class for donations. This demographic is more likely to possess compassion and understanding towards the causes, making them more receptive to empathizing with the non-profit's mission. Conversely, the upper class may be willing to contribute financially but may exhibit less sympathy towards the cause. Therefore, prioritizing emotional appeal and sympathy towards the cause is more crucial than solely focusing on monetary donations. Discussion: Main Analysis: Describe the summary statistics and frequency distributions, taking into account the scale of measurement for your data. Refer to the graphs you created. Your main analysis section should be about 2 to 5 sentences. In Figure 1, the chart illustrates the overall distribution of respondents according to their income class. A total of 660 individuals participated in this study, and their income classes were recorded. Figure 2 showcases the cumulative average empathy scores categorized by economic class. Notably, Figure 2 demonstrates that the working and middle class exhibit higher average empathy scores. Therefore, targeting these particular classes would be the most advantageous approach for maximizing donation growth. Graph One: Create a graphical representation of the qualitative (nominal and often ordinal) data to support your main analysis. Ensure your graph meets the following criteria:
You include a narrative to introduce your graph into your memo. Your graph is accurate and objective. Your graph appropriately represents the data. You use the appropriate type of graph for the data. Your graph is labeled appropriately. Graph Two: Create a graphical representation of the quantitative (interval and/or ratio) data to support your main analysis. Ensure your graph meets the following criteria: You include a narrative to introduce your graph into your memo. Your graph is accurate and objective. Your graph appropriately represents the data. You use the appropriate type of graph for the data. Your graph is labeled appropriately.

Recommendations: Describe the actions you believe your audience should take in 2 to 5 sentences. In my assessment, supported by the findings of this survey, directing efforts towards the working and middle class would be the most effective approach for enhancing donation levels. These groups exhibit higher empathy levels and a stronger sense of identification with non-profit organizations. Notably, the middle class showed the highest level of empathy, closely followed by the working class. Consequently, I recommend implementing a targeted marketing strategy tailored to these specific demographics in order to increase revenue. Moreover, it is advisable to craft marketing materials that foster an emotional connection between the middle and working class and the non- profit, encouraging them to tap into their empathy for the cause. Limitations: Describe the limitations of both your data and your summaries in 1 to 3 sentences. A notable limitation of the data stems from potential sampling bias due to unequal opportunity. The sampling process did not evenly capture individuals from each income class, which could potentially result in misleading findings. Moreover, this bias might extend to other factors, such as certain individuals being more inclined to donate to causes that are directly relevant to their personal experiences or those that closely affect them and their immediate social circles.
