1. Definition of the topic: In the definition of development, physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development are only some of the many categories. The interaction of nature (genetic and biological variables) and nurture (environmental and cultural factors) influences development. In the nature vs. nurture argument, innate traits, and genetic predispositions are contrasted with experiences in the environment and social interactions to examine the relative contributions of genetics and environment. Nature and nurture has been highlighted by Urie’s (Bronfenbrenner, 197) ecological system theory, which acknowledges that humans have a mutual relationship with the environment. Continuity and disruption are also part of child development theories, with some elements beginning to evolve slowly while others move in an unpredictable manner. All the components of childhood development interact and impact one another physically, mentally, emotionally, or socially. Different variables like genetic predispositions and environmental experiences are to blame for variation in the development’s trajectory. In general, development is influenced by a complex interplay of nature, nurture, culture, and society. 2. How does this topic/theory impact preschool development? Child development is significantly influenced by the topic, concept, and philosophy of children’s development. It is responsible for developing a curriculum so that teachers can develop activities and teaching experiences to help achieve the best result in all areas. Teachers can tailor their training more effectively if they are aware of differences between different stages in a child’s development, to meet each child’s specific needs. 3. Reflect on how this new knowledge will impact your future practice? The new knowledge I’ve learned in child development is going to have a major impact on my future teaching practice. I’m going to develop my social skills through intentional curriculum
development, like the creation of group projects which promote cooperation and empathy. Through activities such as creating group artwork and acting role-playing scenarios, active listening and respect for other people’s views will be encouraged. In a welcoming and inclusive learning environment, I shall also organize group activities to practice social skills, dispute resolution and relationship building.
