BAUMRIND’S PARENTING STYLES In an interview with Alison Beard (2023), Ron stated that his parents were strict but not harsh (Beard, 2023). They were helicoptering before that was a thing (Beard, 2023). 4
SOCIAL CHALLENGES Ron admits that when he was growing up and, on The Andy Griffith, Show people would call him by his character “Opie” which he found intimidating and reductive (Myers, 2021). Not to mention that the name came with rhymes and taunts that he was a showoff or came from privilege (Myers, 2021). 5
INFLUENCES ON DEVELOPMENT We always lived in the house that my dad, a struggling workaday actor, could afford (Britannica, 2023). Therefore, we weren’t treated any different than a normal family (Britanica, 2023). Having a mother and father that were familiar with the acting profession made a lot of difference as well (Beard, 2023). 6

INFLUENCES ON DEVELOPMENT Ron tells of his support of his family being the best support that chould have been (Beard, 2023). Ron says “My dada taught me about putting yourself into the character on a personal emotional level. To this day I’ve got a hypersensitive empathectic pathway.” (Beard, 2023) 7
INFLUENCES ON DEVELOPMENT Ron also attributes much of his ability to move from child actor to actor to producer/director/screenwrite needs to be attributed to his relationship with his brother (Clint). 8
PIVOTAL PERIOD OF DEVELOPMENT Ron was always looking at the cameras from the other side and the crew let him get a feel for what it was like (Britannica, 2023). When he was around twelve, he fell in love with the movies, he called it his cinematic revolution (Beard, 2023). He recognized that the person behind that filmmaking was first and foremost the director and he wanted to play in that sandbox (Beard, 2023). 9

RESEARCH- BASED FINDINGS Ron decided the best way to get behind the camera was to attend film school (Beard, 2023). However, it was interrupted by being cast in Happy Days (Beard, 2023). He did not expect it to take off as a series, he was making good money so he thought he would go back to school soon (Beard, 2023). Ron took it upon himself to startmaking short films and then more ambitious ones with sound (Beard, 2023). He started writing scripts which led him to be able leverage himself into acting and directing a B movie called Grand Theft Auto (The Boys, 2021). 10
CONCLUSIO N 11 Ron Howards life as a actor, producer, director, and screenwriter were made possible by the support of his parents. Being his manager meant they were entitled to 15% of his earnings, they only took 5%, saving the rest for him (Myers, 2021). They supported his acting, during The Andy Griffith Show, dad would read him his script, he did not read yet, and help him to make it work. For his first screen test they made a makeshift microphone and had him practice to be comfortable with it (Myers, 2021). Likewise, Andy Griffith gave him plenty of pointers on how to act and be the onstage presence he was suppost to portray (The Boys, 2021).
