First and foremost prior to starting this course I have always had very little understanding on emotional intelligence and the core components that are involved with it. I have learned that I have to put more priority in understanding the importance of emotional intelligence and knowing my MBTI in order to succeed in all areas of my life. I learned that I am not necessarily good at controlling my emotions in certain situations that if I had handled the situation differently it would not have affected my personal and business relationships in a negative way. Understanding emotional intelligence on a deeper level will help me not only be aware of, control but also express my emotions to handle my interpersonal relationships with more empathy in order to create positive social interactions, knowing my value for guaranteed success in all levels of life. The higher the skills of emotional intelligence, the more e ective and ff successful personal and interpersonal relationships are as well as handling oneself in a social and professional setting. Being hired based on emotional competence rather than just criteria yields in a greater success rate because these individuals would be more experienced and know how to handle stress, pressure and think out of the box in dire situations. The one factor I personally deem most important is emotional competence and how it is critical in ones success in any area of their life. Emotional competencies such as influence, initiative and innovation, most important self-control and self-confidence were critical to Michael Iem’s success. I think that being self-confident and taking the initiative is important to stand out. Not being complacent in your current situation and always trying to think out of the box and being innovative is important for self-growth and leads to increased productivity. New junior staff analyst Michael Iem became aware of a market trend that was a different direction on what he was working on and taking the initiative and being innovative he convinced his managers to follow the trend thus yielding success for the next four years showing off his new system (from Richman, L. S., “How to get ahead in America,” Fortune, May 16, 1994, pp. 46-54). I put more emphasis on self-confidence as it is very important because when one is innovative and takes the initiative to be great being self-confident helps fight doubt and self-imposed limitaitons, which can lead to dreams not being fulfilled or met.
