Isabelle Sanderson PSY-150-PFA1 Jim McAlhaney October 27, 2023 Question 1: Describe the benefits of relaxation and meditation as stress management techniques. The benefits of relaxation and mediation being used as stress management techniques is that these techniques help a person calm their mind down and bring the person back to the present. This is helpful to a person because it can keep a person away from making bad decisions based on their mood. These techniques make it so that a person is no longer being controlled by their stress but by conscious decisions. Life can become very stressful at times but it is a person's choice to let the stress make decisions for them, or whether the person is going to make decisions to ease their stress. Question 2: Describe the social-cognitive perspective, and discuss the important consequences of personal control, learned helplessness, and optimism. It is extremely needed and important that a person has self control, especially in social settings. When a person is becoming stressed with the environment around them, they could lash out more easily at those around them and get angry with people they do not realize are trying to help them. If a person has self control they are able to target those big emotions and keep themselves from reacting in a negative way towards those around them. Having optimism as much as possible in stressful situations can help a person steer away from any sort of lashing out
behavior and help keep the environment and vibe around them positive.
