Isabelle Sanderson PSY-150-PFA1 Jim McAlhaney September 18, 2023 Question 1: Distinguish between absolute and different thresholds, and discuss whether we can sense and be affected by subliminal or unchanging stimuli. Absolute threshold is the minimum amount of stimulus energy that needs to be present for the stimulus to be detected. While difference threshold is the minimum amount of difference needed to detect a change or difference in the stimulus. I believe the human mind can be affected by unchanging stimuli in the way that certain stimuli can become habits for people whether they realize the habit forming or not. Question 2: Describe Gestalt psychology's contribution to our understanding of perception, and identify principles of perceptual grouping in form perception. Gestalt’s perception of psychology was that the whole is different from the sum of its parts. Their idea was that the brain creates a perception that is more simply the sum of their surrounding and available sensory inputs. For example a person can come to conclusions based on the similarities they have with another person and predict the person's movements or reactions based on their own reactions. Or the idea that people are siblings because they look the same or maybe even act the same way.
