Please review the module lecture materials and corresponding textbook chapter(s). 2. Please read the information in the syllabus about the assignments. It describes how to complete and submit your assignment and how it will be graded. 3. When you are ready, please answer the questions below in the space provided. 4. When you are finished, please submit your assignment as a Word or PDF file. Section 9.1: The Life of Rogers (1802-1987) Which three aspects of Rogers’s life interest you most? Explain why. Carl Rogers' contributions to the development of person-centered therapy, his emphasis on empathy and unconditional positive regard, and his dedication to humanistic psychology are the three aspects of his life that I find most fascinating. These features intrigue me because they reflect Rogers' significant contribution to psychology and therapeutic techniques. His person- centered therapy transformed conventional methods by giving priority to the individual's subjective experience and self-actualization. I agree with Rogers' assertion that empathy and unconditional positive regard are crucial elements of successful treatment and interpersonal relationships. Last but not least, his commitment to humanistic psychology displays his faith in Section 9.2: The Self and the Tendency toward Actualization What do you think about how Rogers describes actualization? Explain your position. Rogers' explanation of actualization intrigues me and strikes me as insightful. He places a strong emphasis on the value of self-actualization, which is the term used to describe a person's intrinsic desire to realise their full potential and become who they truly are. I like how Rogers sees actualization as a dynamic process rather than a predetermined goal. His outlook, which emphasises the value of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and personal improvement, is in line with the humanistic approach that holds that each person has the capacity for growth and potential. This viewpoint, which empowers people to pursue authenticity, discover their own abilities, and live full and meaningful lives, is something I value highly. Sections 9.3 and 9.4: The Experiential World and Development of the Self in Childhood From topics in Sections 9.3 and 9.4, choose three that interest you most. Explain why. The three subjects that pique my curiosity the most are the Experiential World, Conditions of Worth, and Congruence and Emotional Health. My interest is drawn to The Experiential World since it explores people's individualised subjective experiences. It highlights how distinctive and individual everyone's perception, ideas, and emotions are. A greater comprehension of human behaviour and the elements affecting it can be achieved through investigating the experience environment. I find Conditions of Worth fascinating because they explain how outside forces like cultural standards and acceptance affect people's sense of self-worth. In order to better comprehend Section 9.5: Characteristics of Fully Functioning Persons Based on the characteristics of fully functioning persons, are you functioning well? Explain. I make an effort to exemplify Carl Rogers' definition of a fully functioning human. Even if I might not always entirely satisfy all the requirements, I think I am headed in the right direction. I actively reflect on my ideas, feelings, and behaviours in an effort to better comprehend them. I try to practise empathy and unconditional positive respect in my relationships with other people. I do, however, experience self-doubt from time to time and have room for improvement. In general, I am dedicated to personal development and continually work to develop into a more fully realised person. Section 9.7: Assessment in Rogers’s Theory Would you try person-centred therapy and/or encounter groups? Explain why or why not. I'd be willing to give person-centered therapy a try and take part in encounter groups. Person- centered therapy is consistent with my view that it's crucial to develop a welcoming and compassionate therapeutic setting. I think it useful in fostering personal development and self- awareness since it places emphasis on the person's subjective experience and self-actualization. With their emphasis on interpersonal interaction and self-exploration in a group setting, encounter groups present the chance for significant connections and discoveries. By taking part in these activities, I would be able to better my understanding of how others behave, strengthen my empathy and communication abilities, and advance my own personal growth. Section 9.8: Research on Rogers’s Theory From topics A through D, choose two that interest you most. Explain why. The two subjects that interest me the most are openness to experience and evaluating person- centered therapy. I find Evaluating Person-centered Therapy fascinating since it requires a critical assessment of the efficacy and results of this therapeutic strategy. I'm interested in learning more about the empirical data that supports person-centered therapy, as well as about its drawbacks and potential areas for development. I find openness to experience fascinating since it has to do with how open a person is to trying out new concepts, feelings, and experiences. Investigating the variables that affect openness to Please be succinct and stay within TWO pages for the completed assignment.
