Evaluating Sam Franklin's Case from the Perspective of Role Theory STUDENT'S NAME INSTITUTIONAL AFFILIATION COURSE DETAILS INSTRUCTOR'S NAME DUE DATE
Introduction Role theory emphasize on social positions individuals have and the behavior linked to those positions. Roles have risks and merits depending on individual characteristics, cultural context, and historical time. Sam Franklin is an ex-militant, husband, father, and family provider, and he assumes the family patriarch role of his deceased father. Maintaining these roles motivates him to seek health care although he hides his mental health from them.
The presenting problem Sam Franklin visits the Veterans Affairs Health Care Center (VA) for help. The major problem is that Sam fails to perform his family role being the primary provider. As a father, he drinks uncontrollably and lacks involvement in his sons' lives (Miles (10) and Raymond (8)) As a husband, he is mean and distant to his wife.

Social expectations and social and cultural norms Social expectations: society expects the man of the house to support and provide for his family. Social and cultural norms: Strong men never display their weakness and must head their family. This requires a man to show that he is healthy and robust to work to support his family. Accordingly, Sam fears his state may affect his role as the family provider.

Cont.. Pharmacotherapy alongside effective patient education Temporary relief medications for insomnia and recurring nightmares, like antidepressants and sedatives (Williams et al., 2022). Use selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as fluoxetine, paroxetine, and serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), like venlafaxine, to improve recurring PTSD symptoms.
One advantage and one limitation in using role theory Advantage Considers the client's social determinants of health (SDOH) primarily, environment and work that affects their role functioning, identity, and interaction (Bailey & Yost, 2019). Disadvantage Higher focus on social conformity regarding the client's role than an inquiry into social policies affecting the client's family and work duties.
Conclusion Role theory can be used to understand and manage a patient's case. It commences with some normative expectations alleged to explain certain statuses or positions within social structures and the corresponding behaviors and roles in a client's behavior. For Sam's PTSD, role theory helps understand the SDOH leading to his condition to devise appropriate interventions. Psychotherapy and pharmacology interventions selected, in this case, must enhance the client's role functioning.
