Empirical Examination between Brain Structure and Psychology By: Ryan Tyszka
Information The idea behind the article is that the students tested the replicability nature of the structural brain behavior (SBB) of healthy adults. This is to assess whether there is a connection between grey matter and SBB. Personally I believe that the article is believable. This is due to the nature that their have always been associations of brain function with other links like grey matter. I believe these findings to have validation through findings of the past.
Relation to pop Article and How I found Empirical Article The relation to the pop article is through the effective study of the brain. Both articles were studying the SBB in the brain which is how the two are related. How I found the article was that it was directly stated in the last pop article that I used for the last homework assignment. The author was also noted in the pop article as well.

Main Findings of the Article 1. Finding an association between performance at standard psychological tests and brain morphology is relatively unlikely” 2. “Significant associations, found using an exploratory approach, have overestimated effect sizes” 3. “Can hardly be replicated in an independent sample”
My Opinion on the Science Articles Portrayal of Peer Reviewed article I believe the pop article did not exaggerate the findings of the Peer review article because by finding the SBB connection with grey matter the functions of the brain can soon be discovered by a connection to other things like the grey matter. The findings of the article also were accurately portrayed in both articles because it was a direct study and correlation to each of the two articles by using the research to write the pop article. The peer review article definitely supported the pop article because the study from the peer reviewed article was used as direct evidence in the pop article to support their claims of gray matter being connected to SBB.
What More? I feel like the research is not complete . I want to know more what the function of SBB can be related to in the brain. What motor functions can be affected by SBB and the grey matter?

Citation for the Empirical Article and Abstract Masouleh, S. K., Eickhoff, S. B., Hoffstaedter, F., Genon, S., & Initiative, A. D. N. (2019, March 13). Empirical examination of the replicability of associations between brain structure and psychological variables . eLife. Retrieved March 4, 2023, from https://elifesciences.org/articles/43464 Linking interindividual differences in psychological phenotype to variations in brain structure is an old dream for psychology and a crucial question for cognitive neurosciences. Yet, replicability of the previously-reported ‘structural brain behavior’ (SBB)-associations has been questioned, recently. Here, we conducted an empirical investigation, assessing replicability of SBB among heathy adults. For a wide range of psychological measures, the replicability of associations with gray matter volume was assessed. Our results revealed that among healthy individuals 1) finding an association between performance at standard psychological tests and brain morphology is relatively unlikely 2) significant associations, found using an exploratory approach, have overestimated effect sizes and 3) can hardly be replicated in an independent sample. After considering factors such as sample size and comparing our findings with more replicable SBB-associations in a clinical cohort and replicable associations between brain structure and non- psychological phenotype, we discuss the potential causes and consequences of these findings.
