General Conclusions: Gambling which previously was looked down upon is now the norm in many societal groups meaning in recent year the rate of gambling has increased (Tse, et al, 2012). When an individual decides to gamble to the extent of addiction it can affect them mentally. It can cause low self-esteem, stress, anxiety. This is because when an individual gambles it releases hormones such as dopamine which gives a feeling of pleasure and satisfaction (Mental Health Foundation, 2023). Therefore, when they continually gamble and experience anything other than a win it is likely for some individuals to turn to things like alcohol or illicit drugs to continue feeling that high of winning whilst gambling (Manning, et al, 2017). Not only does it mentally affect people it also has a negative effect financially on an individual which can once again be detrimental to an individual mental health (Latvala, Lintonen & Konu, 2019). Limitations/Research Gaps Many of these studies do not include a wide age range, meaning that most studies are based on older generations or the younger generation not for people who fit in between those ages, therefore further research can be done on all age groups or generations (Rodda, 2020). Most of the data collected is qualitative which mean it is done through analysis or non-numerical data. This has its downsides as it can be difficult to truly analyse an individual when that individual knows they are being analysed for something in particular (Abbott & Volberg, 2007). It can lead to bias information and can be inaccurate if the individual is not being honest. Qualitative data is also subjective to each individual no two people are the same which means that it is harder to generalise date and results. Abbott, M. W. and Volberg, R. A.
