Professional Interview Falah Khan Lynn University Instructor: Dr. Nicholas Armenti Course: PSY200 Due: 12/12/2023
Interview question and response: What is your name? My name is Shazia Khan. What is your title and where do you work? My job title is an elementary school teacher and I work for Broward County Public Schools. What is your highest earned degree? Currently, the highest-earned degree that I have completed in education is a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management. How long were you in school to obtain this degree? In gaining this particular degree, I was in college for over four years to obtain my Bachelor's degree. On a scale of 1 to 5, how much of your job is directly related to principles you learned as a psychology major? I would have to assign a score of four. Learning and memory skills of students are two areas where teaching directly relates to psychological concepts. Understanding the elements of cognitive psychology insights is one facet of student learning and memory that can assist many instructors in memory function along with ways to maximize learning retention. Active learning and repetition are two strategies that could be utilized to increase the effectiveness of instruction. What is the biggest challenge associated with your job?
Balancing individualized attention for students with diverse needs while maintaining class engagement is a significant challenge for elementary teachers. Striking a balance between supporting struggling learners, challenging advanced students, and creating an inclusive learning environment requires careful planning, flexibility, and adaptability in teaching methods are the most essential things to maintaining class engagement in the curriculum. What do you like MOST about your job? My favorite aspect of teaching in elementary schools has to be influencing the brains of the younger students. The finest thing I want to accomplish with students is to provide them with the opportunity to mold their academic growth in creative thinking and interest in learning. One approach to see children come up with innovative ideas for helping people in our society is to have them think about how animals could affect us in positive or negative ways as well as ways to make our daily lives better. If you attended graduate school, please rate the difficulty of the experience on a scale of 1 to 5? I would rate the difficulty of graduate school at a three if I were to enroll. As of right now, I have to admit that it would be challenging because my schedule requires me to teach in the morning, and there would only be an online alternative. It would be challenging to make sure I have enough time, but not too tough if I put in the work to do the tasks to receive your degree. What were the specific certifications you needed to do your job BEYOND earning your degree?
