As an elementary education teacher , you will make decisions based on your knowledge of child development continuously, many times without even realizing it. Over the years, child development research and theory has shaped early childhood education and the decisions teachers make in the classroom. After watching the video below, describe a time when you observed what you believed to be atypical development of a child in the physical, cognitive, or social-emotional domain. What knowledge did you base this from? Discuss the ways you will differentiate activities and make instructional decisions in your classroom based on children’s developmental readiness. A time I saw atypical child ids with my cousin who doesn't properly communicate. Growing up between the ages of 1-3 you can get away with babbling or improper English. However, reaching ages 4 and above you have to be able to communicate sentences with proper English. My cousin struggled so much throughout elementary because his foundational skills were not at the level to get through his school years, especially assessments. By the time he reached Middle school, he was on an IEP and he used to get bullied. However, I helped him In high school and now my cousin is an English Major from Boston College . In my classroom, I will use assessments or assignments to identify students with speech delays. I will practice phonics with counting the sounds and then separating the sounds on paper. I can also use technology to assist with speech delays. I can use songs to help with dictations. Children learn more visually and with repetition
