PLOS ONE 11(2): e0148284. https://doi.org/10.1371/journa l.pone.0148284 What is the research question or hypothesis in this study? The relationship between Aesthetics Appearance and perceived Trustworthiness has especially gathered the attention of social scientists. Despite the old adage not to ‘judge a book by its cover’, facial cues often guide first impressions and these first impressions guide our decisions.   Name two studies referenced in this article that greatly contributed to the main theme of this article. Confirmation bias: A ubiquitous phenomenon in many guises. Review of general psychology.   Nickerson RS. Self-perceived attractiveness influences human female preferences for sexual dimorphism and symmetry in male faces. Little AC, Burt DM, Penton-Voak IS, Perrett DI.
What type of research method was used in this study? Correlation? Experiment? Participants’ attachment styles are measured using the “Experience in Close Relationships—Revised” (ECR- R), a 36-item self-report questionnaire that has proved to provide highly stable indicators of latent attachment.   All data collection was approved by UTREC and the School of Psychology and Neuroscience ethics committee (PS1087), University of St Andrews.   Were the measures used in your study reliable and valid? Explain. What were the main results/concl usions in this study? the influence of gender on the strength of the Halo Effect, the possibility of affecting the strength of the Halo using experimental manipulation, and differences in strength of the Halo across individuals with different attachment styles.   femininity is considered more attractive than masculinity and that females perform better academically and stay in education longer than males, which likely leads to females being ascribed more desired educational traits over men.   Did this study have ethical problems? If so, name them. no no How does this research help improve people’s social well- being/social welfare? Future works should verify how different primes affects the strength of the Halo, and the possibility of exploiting situations to increase or decrease someone’s perceived trustworthiness. Future research in face perception can benefit from noting the significant differences in perception accuracy based on different theories of intelligence or competence. What influence did this study have on the everyday lives of people in society? This has influenced others to perceive those who are more attractive as also more intelligent. This has influenced others to perceive femininity as more attractive than masculinity.
How has this study changed the way you view the world? Did this study affect you personally? I have become more aware of the academic pedestal I put more attractive people on and consider everyone’s intelligence regardless of physical appearance. I have now been considering everyone’s beauty in their own way. Notes and Further Discussion:
