1 Amber Worlton CHILD 320 6/24/2022 Adolescent Interview Paper
2 Adolescent Interview Interviewing is the best qualitative method of gathering data about life experiences. This is because it covers exclusively comprehensive topics, which boosts the accuracy and reliability of results. Therefore, this method was utilized to assess one of the adolescent life experiences, Tyler, including his school, friends, family, personal life, and goals and ideas. This paper will compile the findings gathered from Tyler. This insinuates that the paper will be segmented into four parts to describe the experiences in each aspect. School Tyler stated that he indulged in co-curricular activities because they were the most interesting. They included clubs, talent shows, competitions, and drama. He said that his favorite thing about school was socializing with others. The school scheduled breaks and exercise sessions where students interacted with each other, which enhanced their social development. He asserted that he must excel in his studies because education prepares him for the contemporary world. This aligns with Thangeda et al. (2016) findings on how education promotes sustainability. Thangeda et al. (2016) pointed out that quality education enhances skills development in individuals which help them cope in the modern world. Therefore, Tyler revealed that his drive toward education is being independent in the future. In most cases, transition from one school to another is aligned with multiple challenges. Tyler outlined that some of his challenges were making new friends and adopting the institution's way of doing things. Friends Tyler highlighted that he was a social person; this made him have many friends, including at school, neighborhood, and church. He revealed that most of his friends shared the same interests and hobbies. Nonetheless, he pointed out that he had a best friend they grew up with since childhood. Additionally, he asserted that his social group bears almost the
3 same characteristics; therefore, he pointed out that his parents do not discourage him from associating with them. Besides, he stated that his parents feel secure when spending time with his friends. Another outstanding aspect was that Tyler pointed out that he considered responsible and independent people his friends. There were also the preferred qualities of his parents for his friends and himself. He said dating is prevalent in the adolescent stage because it is characterized by roles and identities, primarily occupational and sexual. McLeod (2013) stated this as the fifth stage of Erik Erikson's psychosocial development. Therefore, he claimed that he would know that he is ready to date when he understands himself, especially regarding sexual roles. Family Life Tyler stated that he was privileged to have both parents and siblings. He argued that his parents were his closest friends; he said that whenever he had a disturbing issue, he shared it with his parents first. He claimed that they understood him more than his siblings and friends. He asserted that they equally supported him emotionally, making him comfortable with both. However, he pointed out that his relationship with his parents has changed. Unlike when he was a child, as an adolescent, he rarely shared everything unless he was unable to accomplish it and needed some insights. Tyler pointed out that his close relationship with his parents has positively impacted his behavior. He claimed that even though he did not consult everything, his parents always encouraged him to be responsible, and since he treasured them so much, he was obliged to be good-mannered. In addition, he outlined that his parents were hopeful, forgiving, humble, compassionate, generous, and positive towards their marriage. Therefore, he supported that these characteristics accounted for their marital well-being. Similarly, Wallace Goddard et al. (2016) highlighted that marital virtues include positivity, hope, forgiveness, sacrifice, compassion, and humility. Tyler affirmed that his parents treated all children equally where

4 they appreciated and rebuked when necessary. He claimed that chores were done wholly, and rewards are provided occasionally to show appreciation for being hardworking and committed. Additionally, he outlined that the family is defined by rules such as respecting one another whose disobedience accrues punishment and asking for forgiveness. Personal Life, Goals, and Ideas Tyler described himself as a self-driven and responsible individual. He claimed that most people would describe him as social and outgoing. He ruled out that he liked his personality of camouflaging despite being in a new environment. He argued that the differences between a child, teenager, and adult are based on physical, cognitive, and social development. He explained that religion is a powerful tool that guides his life; he asserted that he goes to church to get closer to God and live according to His will. Tyler said that if given $500, he would contribute some to the children's home and save the rest for a business invention. He asserted that he felt prepared to make the right financial decisions. He justified that being a teenager is interesting because it is a stage of exploration; however, it involves many challenging transitions. Conclusion Conclusively, interviewing is the best qualitative method of gathering data about life experiences. Tyler asserted that he must excel in his studies because education prepares him for the contemporary world. He contended that he is social, which makes him value friends. He pointed out that he considered responsible and independent people his friends. However, he revealed that his parents are his closest friends; he shared that whenever he has a disturbing issue, he usually shares it with his parents first. Moreover, he stated that he is a Christian, serving as limelight in leading a good life. This qualifies Tyler as a normal individual.
