Volume 321, 15 January 2023, Pages 265-271. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0165032722012071 The article is written by many different authors, that has showed different methods and researched different studies that yes ADHD is one of today’s most common “neurodevelopmental disorders with overactivity, inattention, and impulsivity as core characteristics”. In the article shows that recent studies have suggested that 20 % of those kids with ADHD also could develop an eating disorders, which may include one of the following anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. But there is still little known if the association between ADHD and eating disorders, that in their present work, the authors try to summarize the studies by investigating ADHD and ED with those in their childhood and adolescence adults over the past 10 years. The neurobiological mechanisms behind these associations are only beginning to emerge; however, they suggest that impulse control deficits may play a role in these eating disorders. Additionally, although they may not meet full criteria for one of these eating disorders, some adults and children with ADHD present with dysregulated, impulsive eating disorder behaviors and there is a growing association between ADHD, obesity, and binge-eating behavior in both children and adults” (Reinblatt, 2015). It’s states within the article that children and adolescent with ADHD may have an increased risk for an eating disorder compared to those that have healthy controls, for binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa. Psychological mental health issues such as depression, anxiety disorders are very common in children and adolescents now days especially those that have one or both ADHD and ED (eating disorder) that should be addressed early. “Psychopathology, emotional regulation difficulties, and impulsivity features of ADHD as mediators between ADHD and ED have been widely highlighted in the literature” (Saif, Jahrami 2022). The article investigates the association between ADHD and ED in the pediatric area based on reviews, by studying eating behaviors, and the risk factors and which underly an eating disorder in children and adolescents with ADHD.
