Essay On Military Veterans
Post–traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is now believed to be a common condition for many active
military and veterans who have experienced direct combat. PTSD symptoms can last a lifetime, and
are particularly troubling for those veterans from the Vietnam War who have struggled for years to
get help (Daniels, Boehnlein, & McCallion, 2015). Bergman, Przeworski &Feeny (2017) note that
active military personnel and veterans constitute about half of the overall population, but have a
disproportionate number of mental health problems including instances of PTSD. The authors also
observe that " many military veterans and service members may experience symptoms of
psychological disorders as well as impairment related to these symptoms, but may

Conversely, it has been shown by Silverstone, Sawa, & Linder (2016) and Rosner, Konig, Neuner,
Schmidt & Steil (2014) that treatment of PTSD in these youths is effective. Identifying a detailed
history for client D may determine if his PTSD symptoms have been consistent over time both
before and after entering the marines. Old PTSD wounds related to his sexual abuse as a child, with
a combination of painful experiences and memories, in turn helps explain why he felt justified in
committing murder. The National Center for PTSD emphasizes that stress reactions after a traumatic
event are normal. However, people should seek help if these stress reactions "last longer than three
months, cause great distress, and/or disrupts... work or home life." The main point to stress here is
that PTSD puts symptoms into four groups. The first is "Reliving the event (also called re–
experiencing symptoms). This group of symptoms includes nightmares, flashbacks, and triggers, or
those current events that bring symptoms to the surface. The second group of symptoms involves
avoidance behaviors. For example, if a person were to get into a bad car accident, it may be hard for
them to return back to the scene because it brings flashbacks. The third group of symptoms is
"Negative changes in beliefs and feelings." It could be that client D felt justified in committing
murder because empathy for his daughter triggered his old PTSD

Military Culture Essay
Military has its own culture. It shows the best and the worst of military life. To understand that very
thing in the military is different from regular life outside the military. It has been proving that the
military culture is one of the strongest bonds between people. Trying to put into words that military
culture is one of the hardest things to write about. The military is like a big family because the
ranking system is like stages of life. The higher the rank is the more knowledge of the culture. The
lower ranks are like the young people that just joined who don't know about the culture. Through the
years and starting out the cohesion with people from different cultures forms a big family. The
military is like having brothers and sisters who care about you and would also have your back when
you need it. To understand more about uniformity, conformity, anonymity, orderliness. The
uniformity means the quality or state of being uniform. The one thing I would

To figure out problems and to solve the physical and mental issues. They should figure out how they
could help their brother/sister needs. When you are put in a team to do room clearance and go on the
mission. To understand that team work is very big in the military because it is like having a clock, if
you are trying to do your own thing the clock doesn't work. For an example: Mondays, I could
remember doing my checks on the vehicles that I was a signed to and go over them with the crew of
the machine. I had good report with one of the crews and they would always come back to me even
though I wasn't part of their team anymore because the higher ranks moved me to a different battery
line. It goes to show you that team work is very important in the military culture. The quote below is
a very good example of team work, it has to do with the 4 Navy seals that had to fight to survive and
they did it as a team but it ended up only one

Essay on The United States Military
The United states Military is made up of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard
branches, however the Army is the only branch that has ever issued a conscription or draft and has
done so many times during its wars. The Draft was abolished in 1973 in favor of an all volunteer
army, but men of draft age still to this day have to register to the Selective Service System so a draft
can be readily applied if needed. The draft system recruits and places men into the military during a
time of need for soldiers. During the Vietnam War and Cold War many people found the draft
controversial and unfair, and chose to protest or completely disobey the draft system. Although the
Vietnam War draft was thought by many Americans to be an

In 1962 President John F. Kennedy re–instated the Presidents Committee on equal opportunity in the
Armed Forces. This was known as the Gesell Committee and was chaired by attorney Gerhard
Gesell and was made to bring qualified African Americans into military service. At the time African
Americans made up 13% of the U.S population but only made up 9% of the Armed Forces. The
committee aimed to make these numbers more equal and bring more military interest and benefits to
Blacks, however before the committee could act, the war in Vietnam solved the problems. The new
military expansions, discriminatory draft, and government programs brought increased African
American participation and new forms of discrimination.
The new U.S. involvement in the Vietnam conflict overlapped the roaring Civil Rights movement
bringing the misuse and mistreatment of African Americans troops in the draft and in war itself.
Many Civil Rights leaders not only saw discrimination in the war and war programs, but they also
used it as leverage for their movement. Dr. Martin Luther King described the Vietnam War as: "a
white man's war, a black man's fight" and felt that the number of black youths drafted was
disproportionate to whites, and that African Americans faced a greater chance of being in combat or
placed in front lines.

Military Accountability Essay
Being late does not make one important. Tardiness is a very unattractive quality when it comes to
most aspects of one's life: family functions, meetings, interviews, and especially a job. While a
family may forgive tardiness, a job will not. Being late once or twice in one's life is unavoidable.
Being consistently tardy makes one unreliable and shows a lack of respect for other people's time
and obligations. Being late tells others that one person can be waited on, while everyone else can't.
People do not like when their feelings were not taken into consideration, when they took the time to
consider others. Punctuality is a very important part of military life for several reasons. one reason is
that if someone is late for a patrol
...show more content...
What could have been done the night before? Punctuality is a habit. It's a matter of creating the
routine and sticking with the routine. Punctual people will be winners everywhere and will be one
step ahead of the others. Planning ahead will contribute to being punctual, less stress, and the ability
to navigate around unforeseen circumstances. This all helps avoid difficult situations as far as time
is concerned. This show of respect will also command respect from others. Someone who shows,
over and over, that they are the master of their time is someone who will be taken seriously in areas
far removed from time management. That foresight and adaptability that gets you where you need to
be, when you need to be there, tells the people around you that you can handle whatever is thrown at
you. When it comes to the military certain things are automatically expected of a person. One of the
most important expectations is time management and being on time. Every day there are any
number of places a soldier is required to be at a certain time and as the old saying goes, "if you're
not fifteen minutes early, you're late no matter the situation." Some soldiers understand the
importance of showing up fifteen minutes prior to an event or scheduled activity. To others, it makes
no sense at all. Extreme as it may sound, when dealing with the number of people that

Benefits Of The Military Essay
Military Benefits: Lasting Beyond a Lifetime
The military is shrouded with images of hand–to–hand combat, blood, gore, and depression; but
what of the other side of the story? It is known that over millions of men and women have joined the
military, but is a bold passion for your nation the sole reason to join? The answer is no. There are
numerous benefits to joining the military aside from the privilege to serve our great nation. These
benefits range from the pay, financial assistance, free education, character refinement, to good
retirement
.
The military is not notorious for its ability to pay in abundance; however, after considering the
additional payments that the military offers, the pay may seem more appealing. Just like with
civilian employees who get paid more depending on how long they stay with an employer and the
duration of their education, those in the military are paid in the same way. For instance, officers in
the military are required to have an extended education depending on their path, while those who are
enlisted are only required to at least have a GED. Hence, a commissioned officer ranked as an O–8
who has served for 2 years is paid roughly 10,487.70 dollars a month, while an enlisted member
who has served 8 years and ranked as an E–8 is paid roughly 4,136.10 dollars a month. This is only
basic pay though, the military also offers special pay for those with specialized or hazardous jobs,
and allowances. Military allowances are given to those in service

Accountability in the Army Essay
The US Army values soldiers that are accountable for their actions. Being accountable means being
dependable; arriving to work and appointments on time, meeting deadlines, being in the right place
at the right time and doing the right thing at the right time. Morning formation is the most imprtant
formation of the day. It is made to get accountability of everyone and to put out any information that
needs to be addressed. Without having accountability there is no way of knowing where soldiers are
or whats going on. Not only does accountability matter in formation, but it is also imperative to have
accountability if all of your weapons and sensitive items. What is accountability? Accountability is

It does not look well on them if they can not complete this task. This actually shows thats the soldier
can't be depended on when they are needed. This also hurts them when they are being looked at for
promotions or any favorable actions. As a soldier you want to always make a great impression on
your leaders, and not being able to make it on time is not acceptable to them. It would make things
run alot smootherif everyone was on time all of the time. If no one was at the right place at the right
time, it would set what ever mission you have back. It also makes a negative impact on your
leadership. However, I also feel that as leaders, they should also realize that things may happen with
the soldiers. Whether its being late to formation, missing an appointment due to some circumstance,
as long as the soldier doesn't make it a habbit then forgiveness should be granted on that instance.
Also you want to use this duty in your personal life. It shows people that youre very dependable.
This is not only a quality we use as soldiers, but as civilans as well. Being late is not only
unacceptable in the army, but it is unacceptable anywhere. This should be the easiest task of being a
soldier. The army has several ways to correct this issue if it is a continuous problem. You can recieve
a negative counseling statement, Article–15 or even a Court Martial and discharged from military
service. Plus, with an Article–15 you

US Military Essay
Many people are concerned about the U.S. military because of how many risks come with joining it.
However, the U.S. military also explains the benefits that one could receive. Joining the military is a
decision that should not be taken lightly. One must understand all aspects of the military. In order for
a voter to be fully informed about joining the US military, one must consider both the risks, like
mental illnesses and commitment and benefits, like education, and experience. 1. Risks of Joining
the Military: Mental Illnesses Suffering from a mental illness is a common effect of joining the
military that many people aren't fully aware of. Specific mental illnesses one can suffer from are

PTSD, depression, and the lack of treatment should all be taken into consideration when thinking
about the military. Depression in soldiers can be caused by the length of deployment because they
don't see their families or friends for months. Commitment Being in the military takes dedication as
well as devotion because it is a big commitment that one must follow through with. Rod Powers, a
writer, states, "Before you join, recognize the fact that a stint in the military is not civilian
employment. It's not just like having a regular job. You can't just get up and quit anytime you want
to" (Powers). One must be patient because this is a responsibility Powers also states, "Along with
not being able to quit, there is also the factor of being deployed for months. Soldiers may find
themselves spending up to seven months out of every year deployed" (Powers). A soldier must be
able to handle being separated from family and friends for a good amount of time. This separation
can cause stress and anxiety between soldiers and their families. Bruce Bell, a psychiatrist, and
Walter Schumm, an author, clarify that, "Returning from deployment can sometimes be stressful and
disappointing" (Bell and Schumm). Soldiers can return home to problems concerning money,
children, spouses, or other relatives. In addition to stress, soldiers and families also get anxious. Bell
and Schumm also mention that, "Unpredictable timing can

Military Writing Process
As a member of the military a person would not think that using the writing process would be a
critical part in your everyday work. Since joining the military, I have found myself using my
personal writing process on many circumstances to achieve desired results of communicating
clearly. A situation that comes to mind is when I had to write a report on a mission that I went on.
The report had to have all the important information from what my mission was, what objectives I
accomplished, and my recommendations to the unit that I assisted to avoid the same issues from not
happening again. With all the information that needed to be included in the report and to make the
report easy to comprehend from individuals not involved in the mission

Military Customs And Courtesies Essay
Military Customs and Courtesies There are many traditions that have been established over the long
history of the military services. These many traditions can be broken into numerous customs and
courtesies. A custom is a way of acting in a manner that has been continued constantly over a long
period of time. It is almost like a law. A courtesy is a way of displaying good manners and politeness
when dealing with other people. Military courtesy conveys respect both up and down the chain of
command. One commonly recognized custom and courtesy is the military salute. The salute has
been an exchange of greetings since the age of chivalry. During these ages the knights were
mounted with steel armor that covered their body completely

While it is debatable whether or not rank really has an effect on instilling and teaching proper
customs and courtesies, there is no doubt in the important underlying message of which customs and
courtesies are based. Customs and courtesies display signs of respect not only from one ranking to
another (which seems to be the major focus these days) but also as a sign of brotherhood. We do
these gestures and display our respect to one another in a way that should always show our loyalty
to each other. From the time we enter the service we are taught to be there for each other and to trust
and respect the person next to you always even though that person can be a complete stranger. In my
opinion, we have, over time, lost sight of the values our customs and courtesies are designed to
teach us. Customs and courtesies help make life orderly and are a way of showing respect. Customs
are regular, expected actions. They have been repeated over and over again and passed from one
leader to another over many generations. Courteous actions show your concern and respect for
others you work for and work with also for certain object or symbols, such as the American flag.
The use of customs, courtesies, and ceremonies helps keep discipline and order in any military
organization. Still being used today every day from the playing of Reveille to

Military Veterans Essay
Among the many populations that occupational therapists serve are military veterans who have
bravely risked their lives for our country. Whether they are veterans of World War I or II, the
Vietnam War or the current Global War on Terrorism, they often return home from combat with
various injuries, illnesses and impairments. Some common conditions that they may face include
polytrauma, traumatic brain injury and post–traumatic stress disorder. Our military veterans must
learn how to reintegrate into society as they transition back to civilian life, which can prove difficult
for many reasons. They may experience difficulty readjusting to life at home, school, work or within
the community.
The mental health conditions that affect many veterans are concerning. In particular, veterans may
face post–traumatic stress disorder or depression as a result of their combat experiences. Though
awareness of mental illness is increasing, there is still a stigma surrounding these disorders and
those suffering may be hesitant or feel too much shame to reach out for help. In these cases, the
disorder may be left untreated, which may

demands at home, school, work. For example, it can assist veterans in developing physical and
cognitive skills necessary for proper self–care, effectively managing their emotions, managing
finances, communicating with others, and structuring routines and setting goals. For those struggling
with reintegrating into community life, occupational therapy can assist them in developing skills for
safe driving habits and using public transportation. Occupational therapists can also help veterans

Being on Time in the Military Essay
Discipline is being considered as a primary requisite in each military academy in the world.
Especially, during any military training discipline is being required. So, show how well disciplined
soldier you are in front of your senior military officials you should be punctual. Punctuality plays a
vital role in making any cadet a full fledged military official. Military training is considered as one
of the toughest assignment to crack. The road of performing all the drills and exercises will not be so
easy for you. So, as to make you feel comfortable and perform all your drills easily various military

At the same time, being on time may influence substantially interpersonal relations and it is a
perfect characteristic of an individual. In this respect it should be said that if a person is late, it is a
bit irritating, but if he/she is late regularly, than it is quite a disturbing fact. On the one hand, it
proves that this person do not really respect those people who are waiting for him/her. On the other
hand, it proves that this person is absolutely irresponsible because being late means that the person
is unable to do his/her duties well. In contrast, being on time proves that the person is highly
responsible and is ready to fulfill his/her duty without delay. Such characteristics of an individual
are particularly important in army. At any rate, I, in person, know that I cannot be late because I
cannot be late for half an hour or even less late and just excuse myself and continue my work. In
fact, I am conscious of the fact that even a minute of delay will lead to the failure of the entire
operation that, in the military is absolutely unacceptable. It seems to be obvious that the
consequences of the lack of punctuality may lead to disastrous effects in my work. But I can
definitely say that I will lose my job and this will be not the worst outcome of my lack of
punctuality, because in the army the schedule is everything. However, even in the civilian aviation
world, being on time is not

Military Persuasive Essay
Is it right that Donald Trump bans Transgenders that have the capability to fight and train like
everyone else? Serving for the military is a great opportunity that has been taken away from
Transgenders, that deserve that opportunity, and here's three reasons that Transgenders should be
able to serve. Three reasons why Transgenders should stay in the military are they shouldn't be
kicked out and deployed out of the military despise their gender. The military will lose
approximately 15,000 active troops that were doing an amazing job at serving our country. Finally,
because the Donald Trump claims that the medical cost is too much, but training and getting troops
up to readiness standards will cost more money. First, Transgender military troops should serve in
the military, because any American who meets current medical and readiness standards should have
the right to serve in the military. They got rid of Transgenders in the military, because they don't
want to pay for medical bills when a lot of the Transgenders that serve in the military have already
had their surgeries done. For example, There is no reason to force service members who can fight,
train, and deploy to leave the military – regardless of their gender identity. If they can do exactly
what everyone else can do, they don't have the right to ban them from serving our country, despise
their gender. According to Ada Edelman, "No American, no matter their sexual orientation or gender
identity, should be prohibited from honor + privilege of serving our nation #LGBT,' tweeted Rep."
In addition, The Department of Defense found that health care funds will remain broadly unaffected
by allowing Transgender people to serve while health care cost raise will likely be no more than
one–tenth of 1 percent. The financial cost of health care for Transgender individuals should not be
used as an excuse to deny patriotic Americans an opportunity to serve their country. Overall,
Transgender troops should serve in the military if they are capable and are medically stable to.
Secondly, The military could face a large amount of lost future recruits. They will lose
approximately 15,000 active troops that were doing great work for our country, but when our

Army Training And Education Within The Ranks
Army Training and Education within the Ranks
Sergeant Eric A. Walker
Engineer Advanced Leaders Course Class 002–15
Instructor: Staff Sergeant Payne
01 May 2015
Abstract
In this report I will be going over the importance of training and education within the military
, and
how they both play very important roles to not only leaders, but the service members within our
ranks. The military is constantly training and, we train as we fight. However, before soldiers train,
they must be well educated in all areas in which they will be training. Proper education is the key to
proper training. I will also discuss the importance of becoming better educated while serving in the
military, as it will make transitioning back into the
...show more content...
The importance of furthering education doesn't stop there. Leaders should be enrolling in college,
and counseling their subordinates to enroll in college as well. In order to become competitive within
the Army's ranks, education plays a huge role. As Major Tim Martin stated "A formal education is an
important contributor to the development of leadership qualities and attributes that are crucial in the
growth of a military professional (Martin, 2001)." Some believe training is as important as
education. Army Doctrine Training Publication ADP 7–0 Page 2 paragraph 7 states, "Units train in
garrison and while deployed to prepare for their mission and adapt their capabilities to any changes
in an operational environment. (Headquaters, Department of the Army, 2012)" This simply means
training is never complete. As a leader in the Army, NCO's must seek new areas in which to train
their troops. Proper education in these areas allows for them to receive proper training in whatever
subject they are focusing on. For instance, when the Global War on Terrorism started in 2001 the
Army began training soldiers for urban combat. Had the Army attempted to force the war to be
fought in ways that were no longer compatible with the terrain of the modern battlefield, the battles
would have been more costly for American troops.

Serving in the United States Military Essay
Serving the United States Military comes with many responsibilities as well as pressure and
accountability. However, the military isn't for everyone, but it offers so much for those who serve.
One thing that must be known and dealt with is that this career could be a life threatening one, and
there are many obstacles one must go through beforehand. Joining the military isn't all about
wanting to carry a weapon or looking good in a uniform it's about everyone doing their job to their
best trained abilities. There are many reasons for joining the armed forces. Protection of the country,

First of all, basic requirements must be met such as, age, certain level of education, aptitude,
physical and character requirements. One must be the age of 18 to enlist alone but 17 year olds must
have their parents' consent. A high school diploma must have been earned as well as being a United
States Citizen. Certain qualities such as mental preparedness, physical fitness, and readiness are all
qualities a member must have to be successful. These qualities will help keep the member mentally
stable and be able to handle stressful situations as well as be ready to report for any military
assignment. The last but most definitely not least requirement is passing of the ASVAB test. The
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is an academic, timed test meant to gauge the ability to
learn a new profession usually made available to all high school juniors. The score received on the
ASVAB is the percentage of the people that the test taker has done better on the test than. For
example, scoring a 61 would mean the test taker was more successful on the test than 61% of the
people that have already taken the ASVAB. It's all a huge competition to see who qualifies for the
harder jobs. In order to pass the test a 32 is required and a perfect score would be a 99.
Unfortunately, the ASVAB is just one loop that must be jumped through. (AFBMT) If the ASVAB
was not taken in high school then it will be taken at MEPS. The

I have 26 years of federal service, 20 in the U.S. Navy and 6 with NGA. During my military career,
I took on the responsibility of developing personnel for operational readiness. For instance, during
one particular assignment as the command watchbill coordinator for non–commissioned officers, I
coordinated a unit proficiency–training workshop for the completion of new command
watchstanding protocols. The workshop saved 9,600 man–hours and qualified 80% watchstanding
personnel in less than two months. I currently attend The George Washington University NGA

the United States Air Force (USAF), Untied States Navy (USN), United States Marine Corps
(USMC) and United States Army (USA). Each branch of service had a delayed entry program put in
place to slow down the overwhelming numbers of individuals bombarding all their initial training
programs, so I decided to join the Army since it had the most available slots for a person to enlist. I
joined the Army in July of 2009, and started basic training in October of 2009. All Soldiers must go
through Basic Training to make sure they can physically and mentally handle what is required for a
soldier. After graduating basic training most soldiers are immediately shipped off to Advanced
Individual Training (AIT), so that the soldier can train to be proficient in his or her job that he or she
chose before beginning basic training. Once fully certified for the job, soldiers can graduate from
AIT. After graduation, most soldiers get about a month of leave to go back home to make
arrangements for the transition to their first, new duty station. Finally, after arriving to the new duty
station, I began to see a dramatic change of how many soldiers were coming in and going out. In
comparisons to what I was led to believe was the "norm" from my home town friends and family

Equal Opportunity in the Army

Research Paper
Equal Opportunity in the Army
Propelled by the civil rights movement of the 1960s and to counteract a national policy of
segregation and inequality, the Department of Defense (DoD) mandated race relations training in
1971. The violent and nonviolent disorders of the late 1960s were the catalyst that convinced
military leaders that race relations education must be provided to every member of the Armed
Forces. An inter–service task force examined the causes and possible cures of these racial disorders
within the military. The task force, chaired by Air Force Major General Lucius Theus, resulted in
Department of Defense Directive 1322.11. This directive established the

The situation in today 's Army is clearly much different from what existed years ago. Many changes
have occurred, moving the Army 's EO program from a strictly educational and training initiative to
a multifaceted management program with clear goals and objectives. These goals and objectives are
also an integral part of human relations and are nurtured and developed through a professional
military education system. The concept of the EO program is to formulate, direct, and sustain a
comprehensive effort to maximize human potential. It strives to ensure fair treatment of all soldiers
is based solely on merit, fitness, capability, and potential in support of readiness. EO philosophy is
based on fairness, justice, and equity. It places the responsibility for sustaining a positive EO climate
within a unit on its commander. The U.S. Army will provide EO and fair treatment for military
personnel and family members without regard to race, color, religion, gender, or national origin, and
provide an environment free of unlawful discrimination and offensive behavior. The assignment and
utilization of female soldiers are the only exceptions to our non–biased personnel management
process. AR 600–13, Army Policy for the Assignment of Female Soldiers, prescribes policies,
procedures, responsibilities, and the position coding

Veterans In The Military Essay
Anybody that has served our country or still in the military, please stand up. Everyone look around,
they are the ones that made the biggest sacrifices of them all. Joining the military and becoming
veterans of the armed forces. So please give them an around of applause to honor their tribute as
veterans. Thank you, you may now be seated.
You open your eyes and awake with a new day. You had to some chores, long lists to check, and
some annoying stressful challenge for the day. Someone you never knew now stands watching on a
ship and thinking about his little baby girl his wife just recently gave birth to, and possibly may
never see her father for a long time.
After you finish your morning schedule, you then go to school. You put the keys in your car and
drive up to school on the smooth road. During this time, a soldier helps a women cross a mortared
damaged street.

They fought for basic freedoms that most Americans today take for granted. Freedom of the press,
freedom of religion, and the Bill of Rights were written in the blood of those who raised their hand
when the greater good of our country was at stake. You may say that today, the fight is different; it is
about oil and politics. Whatever the leaders of our country decide, after being duly elected freely by
you and your fellow Americans, has to be carried out by the volunteers who are on the front lines of
the American ideal. The Veterans gave up their lives of comfort, postponed their dreams for their
family, and placed themselves in harms way because it was what you and your proxies asked of
them. If you disagree with the reasons why the Veterans are in one part of the world or what they are
doing there, you should let your opinions be known, by voting or by speaking or by writing. Make
sure you place your dissatisfaction where it belongs, not on the backs of those who serve your
interests but on those who sent them

Essay on Military
Military Organizational Structure
The Toad Military Organizational Structure Organization involves a intentional formalized structure
of roles. People working together towards a common goal, but in specialized areas. The overall
effectiveness of any particular association is directly proportional to the functioning of its members.
As a firm increases in size the participants lose sight of the concept of teamwork. To maintain the
competitive edge a corporation must remain flexible
. To this end, varying styles of organizational
structure have been implemented. Much of this framework is determined by the business type, goals
to be achieved, and even the sociological level of advancement. Our armed forces today reflect this
philosophy.

These numbers alone are not sufficient for adequate results in reaction to many needed operations.
To make up for the lack of qualified people, the reserve forces are part of the new reactionary force.
In any contingency worldwide these assets may be called up with short notice for global
engagement. National Guard personnel serve under the command authority of their respective state
or territorial governors until mobilized for a federal mission. This unique status does involve some
creative managerial solutions. As a National Guard member I have noticed a uncommon
organizational structure utilized. In some ways my unit is organized as a network system. The
network is comprised of formal and informal structures. Work has been divided among varies
specialized shops centering around maintaining expertise in that one area. Other aspects of the unit
show a matrix structure to be present. The fact I have more than one supervisor, as in a project and
functional manager illustrate (Wheelen and Hunger 231). This is manifested by the emphasis that
work is important not the formal structure surrounding it (Nohria and Eccles 193). A result of
multitasking requirements and a limited amount of resources available to non–federal units. But
overall, at least upon the surface a functional organizational structure is present. A boundaryless
organizational design is an interesting concept. However
