DQ 1: Having read the article by Borum, R. (2004). Psychology of terrorism at http://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/nij/grants/208552.pdf critically analyze one theory he presents for terroristic behavior. Do you think this theory leads to a better understanding terrorist behavior Borum (2004) discusses the drive theories as one of the instinct theories that introduce frustration – aggression. Drive theories suggest that aggression stems from external conditions that drive the motive to harm or injure others or overt aggression. Aggression is learned and is a behavior which causes intentional harm to others, and is defined as any sequence of behavior. It is the actual observable behavior that causes harm. Some people are more predisposed to aggression and find it difficult to contain it. For such individuals, frustration is likely to lead directly to aggression than with people of a calmer disposition or greater self-control. I do not think the drive theory leads to a better understanding of terrorist behavior. I agree with the drive theory and do believe that the likelihood of aggression increases when an individual faces an unexpected occurrence. Borum, R. (2004). Psychology of terrorism .
