LEARNING JOURNAL PSY 1504 UNIT 1 The scientific method is a method of inquiry that helps us understand nature around and within us.  When we talk about “science” as only one way to explain nature, and psychology, in particular, as one way to explain human behavior, what do you think this means?  Can you think of other ways that we have used to explain behavior? Introduction “The scientific method is the process of objectively establishing facts through testing and experimentation.” (Wright, n.d). Making an observation, developing a hypothesis, formulating a forecast, carrying out an experiment, and then assessing the outcomes comprise the fundamental procedure. The scientific method's principles are applicable in a variety of contexts, such as commerce, technology, and scientific study. Since psychology uses the empirical approach, it can be considered a science. Any endeavor's scientific standing is defined by the way it was investigated, not by the subjects it looked at. The empirical approach is used in all sciences. Empiricism prioritizes accurate and impartial observation. Human behavior is incredibly nuanced. In order to comprehend it as best we can in the present, we must acknowledge that people are living, breathing organisms in a physical universe. It presupposes that in order to build a solid comprehension of behavior, we need to be aware of scientifically verified concepts from the fields of behavior analysis, biological processes, and the laws of physics. Fortunately, researchers believe that study is the best way to understand individuals and how they connect with others. Rather than relying on a philosopher's claim that humans have free will, a psychologist would collect data to determine the degree to which people can actively control their own actions. Utilizing the empirical approach, psychology is a scientific field. An endeavor's scientific standing is determined by the investigative procedure rather than the subject of inquiry. The empirical method is used in all disciplines. The behavior of humans is very complex. To the best of our current abilities, we must acknowledge that individuals are living, thinking, feeling, and acting beings in a physical reality. This tells us that in order to develop our understanding of behavior, we need to be knowledgeable about scientifically validated concepts from the domains of physics, biology, and behaviour analysis. We also need to know how to apply these concepts effectively. Applying the principles of science requires that one deal only with visible, quantifiable, and reproducible experiences. From a personal perspective I cannot see any other concrete means for explaining human behaviour except by utilizing empirical evidence to understand and properly study the behavior of humans.
Conclusion Applying the principles of science requires that one deal only with observable, measurable, and repeatable occurrences. Therefore, rather than using hypothetical concepts, it is important to employ measured visible actions and environmental situations for the purpose of understanding projecting, and regulating the actions of people.
