My area of specialization that I am majoring in is Educational Psychology. The two schools of thoughts that seems to match my specialization is Constructivism and Behaviorism. Behaviorism will focus on those observable behaviors, along with environmental factors that influence them. Behaviorist view learning as a way of learning new behaviors through conditioning and reinforcement in a class setting. For studying behavior, Watson proposed four methods: observation, either naturalistic or exper-imentally controlled; the conditioned-reflex method, which Pavlov and Bechterev had proposed; testing, by which Watson meant the taking of behavior samples and not the measurement of “capacity” or “personality,” ala Cattell; and verbal reports, which Watson treated as any other type of overt behavior (Henely, 2018). Constructivism takes a deeper look at the role of the learners when they construct their own understanding of the world. Constructivism: -Principles: One will explore, learn, reflect, and experiment on their experiences. -Values: Constructivism will value one’s independence and critical thinking -Subject Matter: Constructivism can be applied in many areas and emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach. -Research methods used with Constructivism is Qualitative Research. Behaviorism: -principles: Behaviorism uses more of a stimuli response for learning experiences. -Values: Behaviorism studies human behavior by observing objective evidence. -Subject Matter: The subject matter will be learning and behavior modification. -Research methods used with Behaviorism is observable studies, along with experimental studies.
