Explain how bullying may affect Amy’s biological, psychological, and social development. Bullying can affect Amys development in many ways. Biologically bullying can alter levels of stress hormones and produce abnormal levels of cortisol which can weaken the immune system and kill nerve cells in the hippocampus, which involves memory. (Bates,2015) Psychologically bullying may affect Amy by her having depression, anxiety and/or low self-esteem. Amy could also be at risk for anti- social behaviors at school like problems at school, substance abuse, and aggressive or suicidal thoughts. Socially Amy could become a n outcast and struggle participating in teenage activities. Considering bullying is an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) it could affect future relationships she would try to have because of anti-social tendencies, social anxiety and self-isolation. Explain how you would apply a theoretical approach and two practice skills when working with Amy. A theoretical approach I would apply when working with Amy is Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). “CBT is considered first-line treatment for a vast array of psychological disorders.” (Camargo et al.,2023) Cognitive behavioral therapy is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on modifying dysfunctional emotions, behavioral, and thoughts by interrogating and uprooting negative or irrational beliefs. The treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns like learning to develop a greater sense of confidence in one own ability. I think this would be the best thing for Amy since she is feeling defeated. Two practice skills I would use when working with Amy active listening and advocacy, because Amy is a teenager, she could use acronyms or slang so it would be important to listen and be able to read between the lines. Advocacy because it seems Amy doesn’t have anyone to tell these things to which could lead to her internalizing her emotions, so she needs someone to not only tell her problems to but to also help her do something about it. Describe an important message you would provide for Amy to help her at this point in her life span. A message I would give to Amy is that it is not her fault, and she should report them to her teachers immediately without worrying about retaliation. I would also encourage her to talk to her mom and try to help them come to common grounds. Resources- 1. Walden University, LLC. (Producer). (2017).
