Elizabeth Teasley October 18, 2023 POLS 5210 Ethics in Public Administration No Show Assignment Instructor: Dr. Bryan LaBrecque I believe the code of ethics for the professionals working in both non-profit organizations and government should focus on advancing the public interest before their own. A person who has integrity displays a principled commitment to values and beliefs. People should always use ethical standards and do right. Promoting those values, beliefs, and standards gives citizens of different communities, and people in those communities feeling like they are being heard and treated fairly. Having integrity means not using your own gain by abusing power for personal or private gain. Members of government or non-profit organizations should always be held to a high standard because they have a moral obligation that holds them accountable. Other codes of ethics that are being held to a standard are honesty, transparency, and confidentiality. These principles are used to guide my actions and decisions in the workplace, ensuring that I act in a manner that is ethical, legal, and in the best interest of the public. Having integrity is the foundation of any public service role and I should always act with honesty and seriousness in all my dealings, by avoiding any actions that could compromise my integrity or the integrity of the organization. These may include avoiding any conflict of interest and not accepting gifts or any favors that would influence my decisions for my gain. The standards of right and wrong that should guide my work do’s and don’ts for public service would be when it comes to do’s using logical judgment, responsibility, and being held accountable. Don’ts would be not to use or make decisions for personal gain and not in the best interest of the people you are supposed to serve.

This is the right standard that should guide our work. According to Zig Ziglar, “The foundation stones for a balanced success are honesty, character, integrity, faith, love and loyalty.” (Ziglar, 2017)
