Governance. Many people living in the metropolitan region have become the unit where most people like to live and conduct business. Public problems within the region were solved at the individual local government level. During this time more and more of those problems require resolution at the regional level. This transition is nicely captured by Brenner (2002), who calls the movement from city to regions the "new politics of scale." To understand how Metropolitan regions work, local governments are considered political entities, and Metropolitan regions are not, and with the United States government, it has organized its urban America into over 350 metropolitan statistical areas. A common approach to information seeking is to convene, identify, and reach an agreement on the nature of problems and to search for joint solutions (Agranoff and McGuire 2003, 72). Using this information helps with guidelines and identifying the problem and creating a solution. I believe that metropolitan governance should take precedence over local governing entities because a city’s metropolitan governance structure has a critical influence on the quality of life and economic outcomes of its inhabitants. Metropolitan areas are more productive than the smaller urban rural areas. It can also help local governments promote economic development and they need to be able to work together with the community members and be informed and include them in the decision-making and marketing of the community. Atlanta metropolitan region falls under the structure of the first dimension which is vertical on the chart. Atlanta has a relationship with governmental officials. From local to state level. We have local government officials that can make decisions for their communities. It also helps with urban planning and transportation, and it also gives the ability to plan for the state and your area making the nature of the local government. They consist of local municipalities, county governments, special districts, and planning. consortia, economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, public/private partnerships, neighborhood associations, councils of governments, and regional institutions.
