The government's job is to ensure people can live in peace and safety. The reason for government is not the governors but the people who are ruled. A system or group that runs a town, an area, or a whole country is called the government. The government's main job is to make and enforce laws, rules, and policies that protect people's interests, keep order, and promote the general welfare.( Government | Definition, History, & Facts | Britannica , n.d.).There are many different kinds of government, such as democratic, autocratic, socialist, and capitalist. Democratic governments are ones in which people can vote and take part in other ways in the political process. On the other hand, authoritarian governments are ones in which the party in charge has absolute power and makes it illegal for anyone to disagree. Also, governments can have different parts, like the Executive, legislative, and judicial bodies. The paper will talk about Kenya's republic form of government, the powers that are given to different parts of government, how the country is run, and the Kenyan constitution and systems of government. Kenya is a country in East Africa. It is also called the Republic of Kenya, it has about 47.6 million people, making it the seventh most populous country in Africa and the 27th most populous country in the world, according to the 2019 census.(Kenya - Wikipedia, n.d.). Kenya is bordered by South Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the east, Uganda to the west, Tanzania to the south, and the Indian Ocean to the southeast. Kenya got independent from British colonial rule in 1963, and Jomo Kenyatta was named the country's first president in 1964.( Kenya - Wikipedia , n.d.) Since then, the government has had several leaders; the current leader is William Ruto. Kenya is a member of many foreign groups, including the African Union, the East African Community, and the United Nations. It also has good relationships with other countries, especially those on the African continent, and has done a lot to help keep peace in the area.
Form of government Kenya is a democratic republic with a government called "presidential representative." The President is both the head of state and the head of the executive department. People vote for the President, who serves for a maximum of two five-year terms. The Kenyan government has a two-house assembly comprising the National Assembly and the Senate. The country's people vote for 349 to serve five-year terms in the National Assembly. The Senate consist of 67 people: 47 are elected, and political parties nominate 20 based on how many seats they have in the National Assembly. Kenya has a multi-party democracy system, and political parties are an essential part of it. Because of the multi-party system, anyone can start a political party and join it if they want to. Political parties can run for office, and the party with the most people in office forms the government. Kenya's multi-party system started in 1991 when a law that had made it illegal to create political parties since 1982 was thrown out. ( Forum for the Restoration of Democracy – Kenya - Wikipedia , n.d.)As a result, many political parties were allowed to grow, which helped the country become more democratic.Since then, political groups have been essential to Kenya's political scene. Some of Kenya's most important political groups are the Jubilee Party, the Orange Democratic Movement, the Wiper Democratic Movement, and the Amani National Congress. These groups have significantly impacted public policy and have run candidates in several general and special elections. The multi-party system is still an essential part of Kenya's democracy. It allows people to get involved in politics and makes the government more open and accountable.

Government branches The Executive, the Legislature, and the Judiciary make up the three branches of the government of the Republic of Kenya. Each department has a different set of responsibilities and rights. Kenya's system of checks and balances ensures that the government is open, accountable, and responsive to the needs of the people. Each component of the government plays a critical role in this process. Executive Branch The President is the head of state, and government and runs the Executive Branch of Kenya's government. After being picked by the people, the President can serve two five-year terms. William Ruto is the current President of Kenya elected on September 2022 .The people also elect the vice president, who helps the President. Rigathi Gachagua is the vice president of Kenya right now. The President and Vice President are the two most crucial executive branch members. The Cabinet is another part of the Executive Branch. It is made up of Cabinet Secretaries picked by the President. The President directs the Cabinet Secretaries on what to do, and it is their job to run the different government offices. The Cabinet is in charge of running the day-to-day activities of the government and making and implementing government policy. The Office of the Attorney General and the Controller of Budget is also part of the Executive Branch. The Attorney General's job is to give legal advice to the government, and the Controller of the Budget's job is to keep an eye on government spending and ensure it fits into the Budget. Legislative Branch The Legislative Branch of Kenya's government comprises the National Assembly and the Senate. The Legislature is in charge of making laws, keeping an eye on what the Executive Branch is doing, and protecting the rights of the people. The people choose the 290 members of
the National Assembly, whose terms last five years. ( ELimu | The Arms of Government , n.d.)Members of the National Assembly are in charge of making laws and speaking for their people. The National Assembly approves the national Budget, treaties, and foreign agreements. On the other hand, the Kenyan Senate is made up of 47 senators who are elected, and each serves one of Kenya's 47 counties. The Senate's job is to look out for the counties' interests and ensure that giving power to the counties goes smoothly. Both the National Assembly and the Senate have panels whose job is to look over public policies and programs, ask questions, and look into things people are interested in. Kenya's democratic system depends on its legislative arm, which gives people a chance to be heard and take part in making decisions. The Legislature is also in charge of holding the government accountable and ensuring it acts in a transparent way. Judicial Branch The Kenyan government's Judicial Branch, which is independent, is in charge of interpreting and upholding the law. The Chief Justice presides over several courts and tribunals that comprise the Judiciary. The Supreme Court, the country's final court of appeal, is Kenya's highest court. The National Assembly must approve the President's appointment of the seven judges that make up the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is tasked with interpreting the Constitution and considering appeals from lower courts. The High Court, the Court of Appeal, and other magistrates' courts and tribunals form Kenyan judicial system. The High Court hears matters of a more serious character, such as constitutional cases and disputes involving significant amounts of money. In contrast, the Court of Appeal hears appeals from the High Court. On the other side, magistrates' courts deal with less complex situations, including infractions of traffic laws and
minor crimes. The Judicial Service Commission, responsible for selecting and disciplining judges and other judicial officers, is another component of the Judicial Branch. A representation from the President's Office, the Attorney General, the Public Service Commission, the Law Society of Kenya, and other legal community members make up the Judicial Service Commission.( Judiciary of Kenya - Wikipedia , n.d.) The Judiciary is essential to maintaining Kenya's legal system, seeing that justice is done, and defending the rights of all citizens. The Judiciary must be independent to protect the law and guarantee that justice is administered impartially. How the country is governed Kenya's Constitution was enacted on August 27, 2010, the same day it was signed into law. In a democratic, decentralized, and devolved form of government, the Constitution says that power is split between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of government. The people of each county choose the governor, who is in charge of running the whole county government. The Constitution recognizes and protects other fundamental rights and freedoms: the right to life, the right not to be tortured, the freedom of speech, the freedom to join groups and the right to a fair trial. Also, it allows for the creation of several independent committees, such as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the Commission on Revenue Allocation, and the Judicial Service Commission, among others. The Kenyan Constitution says that all citizens will have access to a democratic, open, and responsible way of running the country. In conclusion, Kenya's style of government is a unitary state, which means that the national government has all the power and that local governments (counties) answer to it. The
