FAMILY CODE OF ETHICS
2
Part 1
This part will present the original code of ethics for the family where the family is taken as an
organization.
Purpose
A community takes the family unit as a fundamental unit that forms its basic unit. Not
only parents but the whole community derive a great source of happiness in raising children who
will inherit the duties and responsibilities in the society.
The task of raising children has never
been an easy task. Various moral and ethical issues put by both parents and the community as a
whole lead to dilemmas towards decision making. The dilemmas are increasing with time as the
world becomes more of a global village. This has been brought about by many cultures coming
together, which means various ways and beliefs of raising children are brought into existence.
A
guiding principle that can be used to formulate the code of ethics for families is, therefore,
becoming more of a basic unit so that the best practices for the identification and development of
children’s abilities are put into place. The code of ethics in a family will act as a guide where
parents and the community as a whole find a common basis where parents can be brought up
well.
Core Values
There are specific values and ways that every parent should find it important to know and
keep as far as the raising of children is concerned. For instance, Featherstone et al. insist in his
article that the raising of children can never be done in isolation. This process is an integral one;
hence a child learns from the community itself. It is from all the happening in the society that
children gain diversity in knowledge.

cultural and sociological aspects of raising children have embraced the importance of social
contexts when it comes to the raising up of children. It is, therefore, a vital aspect of this code of
ethics to create an environment where children are brought up in a responsive and listening space
so that at the end of the day, reliable connections are created (Featherstone, 2014).
This code of ethics is, therefore, built around core values, which will ensure that children
are brought up in a safe and healthy setting. The setting has to have aspects of economic,
emotional, social, and physical development. As such, a virtue of self-respect and dignity will be
instilled in the children. The children will know on their own that the code of ethics in the family
are put in place to ensure that they grow up as successful individuals.
The children will
transition from one stage of development to another if the code of ethics is created based on
strong core values.
Training and Education
The importance of training and education to instill the code of ethics to the children
cannot be underestimated. This is the reason why family life educators are always present to
guide both parents and children whenever there are dilemmas in child care is concerned. In this
century, where accessing and using the internet is very easy, these services are being accessed
online. The importance of family life education is that it ensures the improvement of the way
knowledge and expertise is transitioned to the next generation.
Crosson-Tower (2017) sets the pace in how the training and education of the code of
ethics can be achieved.
Crosson-tower (2017) says that there should be a cordial relation
between the process of raising children to that of the educators, child caregivers, and the
community as a whole. Crosson-Tower (2017) takes time to introduce why each of the

stakeholders mentioned above has a vital role to play as far as child care is concerned. The
article, therefore, put in place a set of ideas that show how the code of ethics takes a professional
approach by setting standards and principles that guide the whole process of raising children.
There will, therefore, exist requirements, prohibitions, and permissions as far as the code of
ethics is concerned (Crosson-Tower, 2017).
Mission Statement
The primary mission of writing the code of ethics is to achieve a cordial relationship with
every child, have best practices that will serve the individual needs of every child, and create a
learning environment where every child benefit equally from the set of code of ethics.
It is the
belief of the code of ethics that all the stakeholders involved in raising a child who includes
parents, family educators, and caregivers all work together to ensure that a perfect environment
for child growth is achieved.
Part 2: The analysis of the code of ethics discussed above
Key roles involved
It is important to note that the context within which all programs that are used in raising
children are carried out to suit the needs and requirements of the immediate society where the
children who are being raised come from. Corey (2014), in his article, presents the vital function
of the three stakeholders who play a significant role in raising children. The first function is that
the stakeholders should be vigilant of the impact that child abuse and neglect have. Children will
be affected by verbal, sexual, physical abuse as well as emotional, physical, medical, and
education negligence. The second function of the key stakeholders involved in raising a child
right is to have explicit knowledge of both the laws of the state as well as the procedures in the

community so that they can rightfully protect children against the vices of neglect and abuse. The
stakeholders also have a role in becoming accustomed to the use of appropriate assessment
systems which help them to gauge how well they are undertaking their role in the society.
The
last function of the stakeholder is always to provide information on how children learn and
develop. This will be achieved by the stakeholders becoming familiar with any form of literature
that deals with effective programs on child care through continuous education and training
(Corey, 2014).
Strategies used in coming up with the code of ethics
For an effective family code of ethics to be developed, there should be an in-depth
understanding of the needs of each family and then the community as a whole. The aspect of the
community is brought into existence here because the aspect of raising children cannot be done
by a family alone. The process will, therefore, involve coming up with the best practices,
planning carefully and always be alert to any changes that might be required in the process. The
formulation of the code of ethics also did not avoid the importance of all stakeholders in the
process. As such, the code of ethics would ensure that only programs that had effective strategies
and activities for adequate childcare will be included, while those that were non-functional were
thrown out.
Implementation of the code of ethics
According to Corey (2014), the proper implementation of the code of ethics would
involve every team that is involved in the preparation of code of ethics should be able to
communicate the code of ethics to every member of the community.
The communication process
should always be precise, consistent, and clear. The team members should also be able to attest to

the mission and vision of the code of ethics so that any reprimand can be faced without fear or
favor (Corey, 2014).
Monitoring the ethical decision-making practice
The process of ethical decision-making, according to Crosson-Tower (2017), must
include analyzing the feedback of both the stakeholders and children who are involved in the
guided code of ethics.
It is through this way that the effectiveness of the code of ethics can be
monitored. On the question of why the code of ethics is necessary and yet there are laws in the
land to protect children against neglect and abuse, there is a need to recognize that the code of
ethics is a voluntary way that makes sure that children grow up in the best environment. On the
other hand, the rule of law will come into existence when there is evidence in resistance to the
accepted code of ethics (Rogowski, 2014).
