Response:
Doctrine and Covenants 98:10 teaches us the importance of honoring and sustaining civil authority. It emphasizes the
need for respect and obedience to the laws of the land, recognizing that governments play a vital role in maintaining
order and stability in society. This scripture reminds us of our duty to be law-abiding citizens and to show respect for
those who hold positions of authority.
Doctrine and Covenants 134 expands upon the principles outlined in Doctrine and Covenants 98:10 by addressing the
relationship between government and religious freedom. It teaches us that governments should not interfere with
religious beliefs and practices and that individuals have the right to worship according to their own conscience. This
scripture emphasizes the importance of religious liberty and the need for governments to protect and preserve this
fundamental right.
These scriptures teach us valuable lessons about the role of civil authority and our responsibility as citizens. They
remind us that while we are to be subject to and obey the laws of the land, we also have the right to exercise our
religious beliefs freely. They provide guidance on how to navigate the balance between our civic responsibilities and
our religious convictions.
In my personal experience, living by these principles has brought me a sense of peace and harmony. By honoring civil
authority and obeying the laws, I have found stability and contributed to the welfare of society. Simultaneously,
knowing that I can worship according to my own beliefs without interference allows me to exercise my faith
authentically and find spiritual fulfillment.

There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous
power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and
concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that
week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you

The 11th Article of Faith speaks of our belief in the literal gathering of Israel and the restoration of the Ten Tribes. It
teaches us that God has a plan for His chosen people and that He will gather them. This truth brings hope to those

The 12th Article of Faith teaches us to be subject to civil authority and obey the laws of the land. It emphasizes the

In addition to these articles, I find solace in the examples of faithful individuals throughout scripture who faced
religious persecution. From Daniel in the lion's den to the early Christian martyrs, their unwavering faith and courage
inspire me. They teach me that even in the face of adversity, our commitment to God and His truth can strengthen us
and bring about change.
I encourage those facing religious intolerance and persecution to hold on to their faith, knowing that they are not
alone. By seeking strength from God, finding support within their religious communities, and advocating for religious
freedom through peaceful means, they can make a difference. God's love is constant, and He will provide comfort
and guidance in times of adversity.
I testify of the power of faith and the truthfulness of these principles. As we stand firm in our beliefs and support one
another, we can overcome religious intolerance and find peace amidst persecution. God's love and concern for His
children are unwavering, and He will ultimately bring about justice and freedom for all.
