Course Project Topic Selection Caitlin Thomas Chamberlain University Phil 347: Critical Reasoning Dr. Barkauskas November 5, 2023
Mandatory Vaccinations I have chosen to explore the topic of mandatory vaccinations and whether hospitals, schools, institutions, and public businesses should require them in my paper. One of the primary concerns that arise from this issue is the potential infringement on individual bodily autonomy and public safety. This topic is complex and highly debated, raising questions about who has the right to control their body and what is and isn't allowed in institutions, the workplace, or hospitals. This topic piques my interest, as I have chosen to write about mandatory vaccinations and issues surrounding the motive for the anti-vaccination movement in my first composition and rhetoric class, before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the advent of the COVID-19 vaccination. So, I am particularly interested in further researching the topic in light of current events. I plan to analyze the ethical considerations surrounding mandatory vaccinations, examining both medical and general ethics to gain a better understanding of the decision-making process behind mandatory vaccinations in schools, workplaces, and public businesses. Additionally, I will investigate how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the perception of mandatory vaccinations. The pandemic has brought this issue to the forefront of public health discussions, with many raising concerns about the ethics of mandatory medicine. In my paper, I will further describe the impact of the spark of the anti-vaccine movement, how it has influenced people's hesitation towards vaccines, and how healthcare has been impacted by the movement. The antivaccine movement has gained traction recently and activists have become more vocal about its agenda and intentions via social media. Lastly, I will review the legality of mandatory vaccinations in schools, workplaces, and public places. Understanding
the legal framework surrounding this issue is crucial, as it has significant implications for individual and public health. In summary, this is a critical and complex issue, and I aim to approach it with sensitivity and diplomacy. My objective is to better understand the various perspectives surrounding mandatory vaccinations and to contribute to a constructive and informed dialogue on this topic.
