Notes and ideas
How can you apply this in
your instructional
practices?
A.
Emphasis on inquiry
Fundamental to formulate
questions
By having inquiry skills it will help explore the world
around us I would promote using inquiry in my lesson plans and have the students creating questions to further their understanding and to explore
B.
Some Students Do Not Learn How
to Ask Questions
Only 27% of college graduates know how to formulate and pose questions
School might focus more on teacher generated questions rather than student generated
Students ask fewer questions at school than home I would make my lessons to where students are generating more questions than I am. I would encourage the students to ask questions at anytime C.
The Question Formulation Technique (QFT) as a Deliberate Strategy to Teach All Students to Inquire
The QFT is to help teach students how to ask better
questions
1. question focus 2. student generates their own question while using the rules 3. student identifies different types of questions and transforms questions 4. student prioritizes I would teach my students the QFT
and encourage the 4 rules for producing questions.
questions 5. educator and students discuss next steps 6. Students reflect and move into next steps D. Sparking Student Inquiry in the Classroom with the QFT
The use of it in the classroom encouraged engagement and discussion
It helps with research I will use the QFT in my classroom to spark discussions and engagement. The students will enjoy the discussion more when they are able to come up with their own questions and use their own questions for research. E.
