Film-Philosophy Worksheet #8 : The Problem of Evil and Doubt 1. In your own words, describe the Ultimate Harmony Defense (3 points). Ultimate Harmony Defense doesn't have a straightforward definition. In my own words, I would best describe it by saying god exists. Evil will always exist in our world, but through this darkness of evil always comes the light of good. Everything happens for a reason, so never feel hopeless in your situation. Chances are it's all part of your plan. 2. In your own words, describe the Free Will Defense (3 points). This idea covers the framework of how we all have a choice in this world. Some people choose to do good in this world, some people choose to do evil things. This is all possible because God has given us the freedom of choice. Free will definitely support that everyone has a choice to either be something good or bad in this world. 3. Do you believe God exists within the world of the movie, Doubt? Explain your answer (4 points). The movie Doubt leaves this question up in the air. The film centers the plot around the theme of doubt in faith and moral values. This leaves the question of whether or not God exists within the world of the film up for discussion. However, if I had to choose a side I would say that God does exist within the world of this movie because the characters get met with some challenging decisions and according to the Free Will Defense, everyone has a choice because God allows for us to have it.
