Reading Hannon's (2021) work highlights the fundamental relationship
between mathematics and God's creation and inspires re±ections on math
from a biblical perspective. The universe's divine order, established by God,
is re±ected in the accuracy and orderliness inherent in mathematical
concepts. According to Psalm 19:1-2, "The skies proclaim the work of
God's hands; the heavens declare the glory of God." They express
themselves verbally every day, and they divulge knowledge at night." This
biblical viewpoint highlights that mathematics is a manifestation of God's
knowledge and design rather than just a human invention. Furthermore, thinking about math from a biblical perspective encourages
consideration of stewardship and accountability. We are obligated to apply
our mathematical expertise for the bene²t of society and the expansion of
God's kingdom as stewards of God's creation. This viewpoint pushes us to
apply mathematical ideas sensibly and ethically, avoiding abuse or
exploitation. Hannon's work also promotes a holistic approach to mathematics by
fusing logic and reason with faith. Our grasp of God's creation and
providence can be strengthened by mathematical reasoning, just as faith
informs mathematical inquiry. "For since the creation of the world God's
invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly
seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are
without excuse," says Romans 1:20, a³rming this interconnection.
