Answer: This week was very important because we were able to learn about one of the pillars of our church which is
the authority of the priesthood this is God's authority on the earth which as mentioned in D&C 128 God and Jesus
Christ have established on the earth through the prophets. which allows them to make everything that is done on
earth also be recognized in heaven, but all this was lost at the time when the apostles were killed because of the
harshness of the world, but as we are mentioned in D&C 128 itself it tells us of the event that Peter, James and John
were the ones who gave the priesthood to Joseph Smith and also in DYC 27 we are told that these 3 gave the
priesthood to Joseph Smith through the laying on of hands, since they were the last to hold the priesthood, and we
are also told that they are given the keys of the priesthood which is the permission to act under this authority for the
welfare of the world and the priesthood. From the church, I know that the priesthood is something that we need to
reach salvation and that it is necessary because, as Jesus Christ said, it is one of the pillars of our religion, knowing
clearly that the cornerstone is Jesus Christ
Word Count:224 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Authority on Ordinances
Response: We need to know that to receive the covenants and ordinances for salvation such as baptism, we must do
it by those who have the authority, I like to think about this topic regarding the baptism of Jesus Christ, since he did it
with not just anyone whether it was a scribe or a Pharisee or Sadducee who were the ones who were best known at
that time. He looked for John the Baptist who was the person who had this authority, we can see this in D&C 128
where we are taught that whenever God calls a prophet He gives him his authority to act on earth, which happened
with John, this authority is very important so that as Jesus Christ said in Matthew 16 everything that is bound on
earth can be bound in heaven, Jesus Christ Himself gave this authority to Peter telling him that he would have these
keys from heaven and giving him the authority of the priesthood, this authority was lost when the apostles died as
they persecuted them to kill them and God decided to remove him from the earth, but these same beings who were
the last to have God's authority were the ones who gave this authority to the Prophet Joseph Smith to restore the
church, So D&C 27 tells us how this happened, and why the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has this
authority to happen as the Savior said to Peter, whatever is bound on earth must also be bound in heaven. The
Prophet Joseph Smith needed this authority to restore the church, and the Savior Himself promised that this
authority would never again be removed from the face of the earth, which is why it has been handed down to the
present day, Peter James and John gave the Prophet Joseph Smith the keys of the priesthood that refer to the
authorization to use this power fully. Currently, these keys are delegated to every worthy man who can hold the
priesthood in a delegative way, that is, the current prophet who is the one who has all the authorization to act
through the priesthood, delegates through people so that the priesthood can be used for specific tasks and the law
that must be done by someone who possesses authority can be fulfilled. Therefore, thanks to this, each ordinance or
covenant that is performed today has the necessary authorization or keys so that it can be done legitimately and has
the authority of the priesthood, thus achieving that it is true. Word Count:424
