Policy Memorandum Chrystal Belt| Grand Canyon University | ADM 530 Public and Non-Profit Administration| Mr. Spurlock| May 26, 2021 MEMO TO: Mr. Spurlock FROM: Chrystal Belt SUBJECT: Restrictive Policy on Critical Race Theory and Governmental Agenda Unscientific Biased Interpretation of Data Critical Race theory has made its way into society by storm. Academic movements have sought to change the way that students view other students and mainstreaming the ideas of racial justice within the school system. Critical race theory emerged in the 1970’s when Kimberle Crenshaw and fellow scholars found patterns in the idea of racial and sexual discrimination. This idea is pushing for policy changes to actively benefit single individual groups as opposed to communities at large. Those like crenshaw who believe in critical race theory seek policies that would benefit an individual group while harming another individual group through government policy and restrictions. These types of policies are unconstitutional by nature as the constitution is centered on individual freedom without regard to race or gender. As conservatives are continuing to fight for freedoms and against racial constraints of this idea, they have been seen as racist and socially unjust. Today, those who believe in critical race theory also believe that it should be placed in schools and taught without concern. Solutions: Forcing correction of terminology back to original meanings Establish the correct teaching of the constitution and its amendments in schools based on factual education. Accountability in government for knowingly pushing nonfactual narratives. We first saw the terminology and language of our government start to change when political correctness entered the scene. As political correctness was used to mask the understanding of words and how they should be used, communism started to creep in and change how language was viewed. Language is the focal point of any communication and how things are expressed between humans. In today’s society, we are consumed with Social Media redefinition or new uses of publicly known words resulting in the misunderstanding and changing of the constitution and its laws written over 200 years ago. Its time to teach the original meaning of words in our schools and accurately define, depict, and communicate the language and intent of law makers in the time they were written. Using new definition explain former language allows for the politicizing of courts and definitions to enforce essentially new laws without ever being voted on. For example, the use of equity for equality. Nowhere does our constitution say that every individual is entitled to the same equity, property, or monetary status. An individual is only protected in their right to have equal opportunity as another. By tying equity and equality together in its new definition, the constitution would read as if all people without regard to work, drive or ambition should receive the same material benefit.
Policy Memorandum May 26, 2021 Page | 2 There has been an increasing rise in hostility towards our founders and their intentions. Critical race theory has gone as far as to say that figures such as Abraham Lincoln and the documents such as the emancipation proclamation, freeing the slaves are in fact some home racist. Views such as these are a disservice to our children by simply teaching the facts and giving the documents to be read by our children from an unbiased source rather than an ideological source would mostly remedy the situation itself. This would allow children the ability to form their own opinion on the mater using factual evidence. The critical race ideology that all of our forefathers are racist and sexist skew the good intentions and benefits that our nation has scene before they are communicated to our children today. This, however, is a moot point in the first issue of language is not addressed and taught correctly. Today it seems that people hang their hats on what the government tells them and that what they say is known to be true and accurate. As communication is everything in today’s world people seem to forget the fact that they need to fact check any and all politicians. As we start to see this come to light, we as a community and as a nation need to start fact checking the politician and holding them responsible with what they share with the people they are communicating to. Our government and our politicians should be held to a standard. To do this we should be placing a person form each side of the isle to fact check what is said and report as to if what they say is true and accurate. We used to see factual information come from our media sources and journalism but now that journalism has been sucked into the political agendas of the government, we need to have specific appointed people who are authorized to find out what is true and accurate and report it as such. Politicians should be held accountable for attempts to willfully deceive their constituents with lies or twisted words to push a policy against the peoples wishes. Although we believe in free speech a lie told on purpose to deceive and to get an outcome from people is known as a con and should not be above the law on that issue. That even means if it is proven to be a lie the politician could go to jail. Financially this perspective would not really come at a price as it is people already holding other people accountable. Changing how our kids learn in schools doesn’t really have a financial change. Teaching our children and others the real meaning of words and what they stood for doesn’t require a monetary change. The only financial constraint would be the time it takes to review information and implement policy to change how factual information is taught in our education system and is run. Its time to return to the roots of our nation, a monetary value or a financial hinderance should not be something of concern as we are using the information that is already provided to us. The simple fact that our government has pushed an agenda to meet their own needs and better themselves has brought us to the situation we are in today. Critical Race Theory has found a gateway to enter our school systems and teaching children about nonrealistic ideology. We need to be teaching our children the true history of our county with facts and logic and let them decide as to how they perceive it. Language has changed how things are perceived in the education system and even though we don’t live in the era of the forefathers. We have the ability to use the language that was used in their time to find out what they actually meant. Changing these three issues would start the change of how society views our reality today. It is time to not let our history and our language get lost in so that our politicians can gain power and money and destroy the future of our children.
