Balancing law and ethics.
The branch of philosophy known as ethics looks at decisions, behaviors, and ideals to es-
tablish what is morally acceptable and unacceptable. Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates—three of the greatest thinkers of antiquity—established fundamental ideas that have been the cornerstone of ethical conduct for millennia. Ethics was described as "the science of morals." Human behavior is governed by the rules of ethics. Laws define our system of self-government in the US and most other democracies. Throughout centuries, rules have developed in response to widely held social conceptions of right and evil. The law is still changing today to consider both our past and our current ideals for government. For both the nation and us, stability is provided by knowing we can rely on the law.
It might be difficult to navigate the waters of ethical quandaries, and abstract ideals. Rigid legal requirements on the one hand and seemingly insurmountable moral issues on the other make it difficult to strike a balance between legal and ethical commitments. The goal of my
proposed research paper is to delve into these predicaments, with the hopes of providing insight into how one can reconcile their adherence to the law with their ethical convictions. I will attempt to show common ethical challenges in the legal practice, and principles guiding moral conduct. Balancing legal and ethical obligations requires sound judgment, integrity, and courage.

This is a general topic that can take many turns, I intend to hone-in on how this applies to
medicine/ nursing. With a special interest in mental health and decision-making.
