Discuss a moral dilemma that you have experienced in your life. State how you chose to act and the reasons for your actions. How does moral development impact practice at micro, mezzo and macro level?
Moral dilemmas are something we face when we must decide if something is right or wrong. (Sigelman & Rider, 2018). This is something that people deal with and is something that is a common occurrence in social work. Having to decide what is right and wrong is not always black and white. There are instances where this can be a difficult decision where you must look at things with no bias as an outside party, especially in social work. When I think of a personal moral dilemma, I faced in my life would have been three years ago. Three years ago, one of my friends called me to tell me they had seen my dad out with another woman. My dad was cheating
on my mom and at this point I had to decide what I was going to do with that information. My mom was not in a good situation if she was to leave my dad for cheating on her which made it hard to tell her heart-breaking news, but at the same time how can you not tell your own mother that. It was a hard decision. I ended up telling my mom because it felt like the right thing to do and gave her some time to plan how she was going to live if they were to split up. My reasonings
came down to that morally it was my responsibility at that point knowing that it was true to tell her. Moral development plays a role in practice at each level. In micro practice because sometimes you are faced with people who are having problems making a decision that is a moral dilemma, or one of your clients puts you in the situation where you must decide what to do with that information because of what they have told you. At a mezzo level it may be withing your agency
having to make decisions that can affect other people. At a macro level you may face ethical dilemmas that can impact a whole community. REFERENCES
