Psychological needs that can motivate professional church workers toward giving Christian care may include a sense of calling, compassion for others, a desire to make a positive impact, and personal spiritual fulfillment. These motivations can be appropriate if they are rooted in genuine care and empathy for others and aligned with the teachings of Christianity. However, motivations driven by ego, power, or a desire for personal gain may not be appropriate. 2. The first thing a pastor or Christian caregiver needs to learn in order to be a cross bearer is a deep understanding of the message and teachings of Christ. This includes studying and internalizing the Bible, developing a strong theological foundation, and cultivating a personal relationship with God. By grounding themselves in the teachings of Christ, pastors can better understand the significance of the cross, self-sacrifice, and the importance of love and compassion in their ministry. 3. The second thing a pastor or Christian caregiver needs to learn in order to be a cross bearer is the ability to empathize and connect with the individuals they serve. This involves developing strong interpersonal skills, active listening, and the ability to provide emotional support. Pastors must be able to enter into the pain, struggles, and joys of those they minister to, showing genuine care and compassion. By doing so, they can effectively bear the burdens of others and provide meaningful pastoral care.

Why God chose to make Himself known in the midst of suffering on a cross, God only knows; that's what makes it comforting. It is there in the cross and suffering where we need Him most. Is there a conflict between faith and medicine? Why or why not? What people in medical fields object to is the way some religious people pit faith against medicine . The relationship between the physical and the spiritual and between faith and healing is not clear to us as a society or even to many in the Church . It would be a mistake to diminish the importance of medicine ,

We are to make our requests known to Him . Eye prayed for the atheist professor 's healing . Even the professor admitted that " something happened when you prayed for me . After you left , I felt a peace that I have never felt before . " Ludwig, Chater 6 – Christian Concepts for Care, “Understanding the Value of Spiritual Formation” 1. Why would boundaries play a role in moving a child or adult from self-centeredness to having concern for others? A faith community can become a village that helps raise the child , teaching that God is real . Children this age learn of God 's love by the way they are treated by the community . They respond to kindness , knowing they are viewed as a gift to the church . They also experience healthy boundaries that help move them from self - centeredness to concern for others . 2. Ludwig describes three different types of spiritual disciples; those that reform the spirit, those that help overcome an overcontrolling mind, and those that help the body with impulse control. Pick one spiritual discipline from each category and describe how it helps guide toward spiritual maturity. To Reform the Spirit : Prayer , in its various forms , brings us into awareness of God 's presence .

As a spiritual practice , prayer creates communion with God . Prayer is joining the conversation that is going on in God and being invited into an intimate relationship . Overcome an Overcontrolling mind : Solitude is the discipline of being alone and silent . Spiritual growth can occur through stillness . Solitude is more than being alone and quiet ; it is a state of mind and heart . God can use this experience to show how the person needs to be free . He invites the yearning sinner into a closer relationship with Him . Help the Body with Impulse Control : The discipline of service creates the grace of humility . When a believer consciously chooses a course of action that places the good of others first , a change occurs in the spirit , bringing deepened love and joy in God . Ludwig, Chapter 7 – Christian Concepts for Care, “Congregation as a Healing Community” 1. What is the difference between a “we-oriented” culture and a “me-oriented” culture? Spiritual growth occurs in the context of the Body of Christ as it functions as a WE orientation in all of its relationships . This represents an actual cultural shift from the power struggles and negative , disrespectful attributes of a ME - oriented culture . This WE - oriented shift is a different way of thinking , a different set of emotions , a different way of perceiving , and a different way of acting - all taking into account the best for all concerned . A WE - oriented shift is what the new self helps accomplish in the mind and heart of the believer 2. List the markers of a healing community, and then explain how love can function as a motivator. The markers of a healthy faith culture are similar to the attributes of a healthy Christian family : 1 loving in the agape sense , honesty , 2 " speaking the truth in love , " and 3 having good WE - oriented boundaries . Agape love is the love of Christ that is totally selfless , thinking always of the best for all concerned . It is the gift that the Holy Spirit brings to the Christian community that makes it a healthy community .
3. What does “seelsorger” mean, and how does it describe a healing faith community? Seelsorger means " one who cares for the soul " used to describe a pastor . Leaders who value a caring community will give priority to the planning , education , and culture change necessary to establish and maintain such an environment .
