Right to Confront
When the Constitution was written, they also added the Bill of Rights, which included the
first ten amendments. The Ten Amendments were created to provide the people of the United
States with certain rights. The Sixth Amendment to the Constitution is one significant component
of the Bill of Rights, which guarantees various rights to criminal Defendants. (e.g.) the accused
has the right to counsel, to a speedy trial, to a public trial without unnecessary delay, to confront
opposing witnesses and the nature of the charges and evidence against them, and to an impartial
jury. The accused shall enjoy these rights in all criminal prosecutions.
(Roberson & Winters,
2019).
The right of people accused of crimes to receive a trial that is both fair and quick is guaranteed to
them by the Sixth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. This Amendment serves
to safeguard citizens of the United States. The opportunity of the accused to face and question
witnesses who may testify or present evidence against them is one of the crucial aspects of a trial
conducted with fairness. Defendants must have this privilege to guarantee that they can defend
themselves against charges that are false or made by mistake.
On many occasions, the only source of information on a crime may come from witnesses of the
incident. If Defendants were prevented from challenging or interrogating these witnesses, they
would be at a disadvantage while attempting to defend themselves. This right also ensures that
witnesses will provide truthful and accurate evidence. If witnesses are aware that they will be
questioned by the Defendant charged with the crime(s), there is a lesser likelihood of lying or

making errors when providing their evidence.
Therefore, the ability of criminal defendants to
question witnesses who have testified against them is a crucial component of the criminal justice
system.
Do you believe Defendants are provided with too many rights, which is why there is too much
crime in the US?
