Rawlsian Justice The question is whether the professor should read and grade the exam or just give everybody an A. Alternative- 1. Read the exam and grade it. 2. Give everybody an A in the exam. Rank- A) Distributive B) Procedural C) Compensatory D) Retributive Alternatives- 1 st Alternative 2 nd Alternative Distributive It is not distributive because the professor would have to grade the exam individually and that would not give the same result to all the students. It is distributive because everyone is getting the grade A. Procedural It is procedural as the process of reading and grading is followed by the professor and it also allows the students to trust the professor in making the grading decisions. It is not procedural as students are not given the right grades based on their work. Compensator y It is not compensatory as it does not compensate those who failed for different reasons. It is only useful for those who studied hard for the exam. It is compensatory as it gives benefits to those who did not even study for the exam. Retributive This is retributive because the students who work hard do not get any benefits and we see it would be a type of punishment for them as they worked hard to pass the exam. This is also retributive as it compensates those who did not study for the exam. Rights and duties- 1. The right to be treated equally Duty- everybody in the classroom should be treated equally. 2. The right to equal outcome Duty- to make sure that everybody gets the results based on their work 3. Right to fair treatment. Duty- the authority person must treat everybody fairly 4. Right to give feedback Duty- you have the right to give feedback on the results

I believe that 1 st alternative does not violate the 1 st , 3 rd, and 4 th rights so it can be used to grade the exam and by doing so the grades will be based on the work of the students.
