Ethics and Professional Studies – Informed Consent Informed consent addresses many elements of a counselor/client relationship, such as documents, processes, therapeutic approach, professional background, termination, client right to
access files, and diagnostic classifications. Thus, informed consent is implemented to ensure a healthy, well-balanced, and stable environment during therapy, offering a safe and secure platform for positive progression. Informed consent fosters collaboration, improves relationships in treatment, and promotes ethical boundaries and practices. During my time as a salon manager, it was customary for me to discuss some of the risks involved when doing a chemical treatment or service on a client, especially those who were under the age of eighteen; few services were not
rendered without a consent form signed by the parent or guardian.
Telehealth or Not to Telehealth
The general informed consent document explains the risks, benefits, and alternatives to procedures and treatment and contains the patients' agreement to proceed, whereas telehealth has different aspects. Telehealth informed consent consists of receiving health care service through technology, incorporating technology requirements, privacy and security risks, and patients' rights and responsibilities. The most significant difference is that the latter addresses unique features and challenges of telehealth and technology, requiring a backup plan to be in place (HRSA, 2023). Every client should sign the informed consent form in person or via telehealth, assisting the patient in understanding what is expected and preparing for therapy and how to protect their privacy and safety, providing ethical and legal requirements and responsibilities.

These documents can
be time-consuming and difficult. You must understand the sign as it represents an agreement between you and me, allowing for certain freedoms of discussion in the future.
Therapy
A partnership between individuals partially functioning to reach a person's rights and duties is clearly stated. Comprehending your rights and obligations as a client in counseling or therapy is critical, knowing that such privileges have legal restrictions. As your therapist, I am obligated to you as well. The following section describes these rights and obligations.
There are benefits and risks to therapy. Risks include feeling uncomfortable since therapy
involves disclosing unpleasant parts of one's life, including but not limited to feelings of sorrow, guilt, worry, rage, frustration, loneliness, and powerlessness. Therapy demonstrates its ability to help individuals to those who pressure it. Multiple treatments have been shown to result in a decrease in depressive conditions, improved interpersonal

satisfaction and connections, and an increase in self-awareness, improving insight and stress management abilities. However, nothing can be guaranteed; therapy is a proactive effort from you coupled with the treatment, putting to practice outside of therapy what is discovered and learned within treatment to become more effective in your everyday life.
